I have been monitoring the TSX prices. And finally submitted an internet qoute resuest. This is what I got for Carbon/Black/Silver 6spd non navi:

Thank you for your recent inquiry through Honda LDRA. My name is (can't post dues to Edmunds' rules) and I am the Sales Consultant at Ray Laks Acura.

Your Internet quote for - is: $23995. This offer is good if the vehicle is picked up today!

We also have an excellent availability right now of other that may offer additional savings to you. If a late model, previously owned vehicle, with very low miles and the factory warranty would interest you, I would be glad to research our extensive inventory of over 400 pre-owned vehicles to find something that will meet all of your transportation needs at a substantial savings

Can this be real?

Wow... It could be real.. I'm guessing you will have to add:

Destination
Document Fee
Dealer Prep
Janitor Fee
Toilet Paper Fee

But, maybe I'm just cynical...

If it is real, and you are serious about buying the car, I'd be there yesterday...

If $23995 is the price for a new 2005 TSX, that dealer is selling it at a substantial loss, even after holdback is considered. I would be really skeptical of that quote. Maybe it's just a bait and switch ploy to get you to come into the showroom. I think the smart thing would be to call the dealer, ask to speak to the Internet sales manager, and verify the quote before heading out there.

I called and left a message. Will wait and see. This seems too good to be true. Too bad there is no 2.9% on Acura's anymore.

I am wondering if this is one of those tricks mentioned in the "car salesman's diary" her eon edmunds.

I understand that today is the end of the month, and they want to make their numbers. Sometimes Honda Corporate throws in incentives up to $1000 per car if the dealership reaches certain number of sales. Maybe this one car is the magic number they have to reach to make $15,000 on all the other cars they sold in the month? I just wasn't aware of any incentives on the TSX from Honda Corporate.

I hate the "Must buy it today bit." Sounds like a bait and switch, or when you get there they will say you are too late.

A price given today should be good for at least a few days.

Here in New England, every Presidents Day Holiday all the car dealers have big "Washington's Birthday Sales." Huge newspaper ads, TV ads, etc.

A car salesman I know says it is just a big come on. The "sales" price is the same as yesterday and tomorrow. The "Washington's Birthday Sale" is just to get people excited because they think they are getting the biggest savings.

If this price is real, it should be available tomorrow and the day after.

I agree.. but, it is the end of the month and the quarter.. Businesses all over the world make goofy decisions based on an artificial date and goal, every month, even if they actually make bad business sense...

So, that sales manager that has to move XXX units in the month of March, may indeed cut you a better deal today, than tomorrow (or whenever his month ends).

That is why they always say to shop at the end of the month.. It works..

No offense, but dealer holdback is not the only incentive dealers can have available to them. You never know what incentives the dealer might qualify for from Honda, such as dealer cash and factory-to-dealer incentives, end of the month sales goals, etc.

Such incentives are the reason people can sometimes get cars at or below invoice cost. It may seem like the dealer is losing money, but they ain't. Moving one car off the lot insures that another will be coming to take its place.

As long as one is aware of such tactics as bait-and-switch, he'd have to be pretty naive to fall for them. Nobody is going to force anyone to sign their name. The thing I'd be most cognizant of is fluff fees and the like.

There sure isn't any harm in blueiedgod going in and talking to them. He may well end up getting a great deal. Good advice, though, on pinning the internet manager down on a price, if you can.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Well, I called after work again, and no one called me back. I think they realized that they can't do it, or this was the "low balling" offer, I took them up on it, and they backed out. Not a very professional way to conduct business. I had my hopes up for nothing. Back to monitoring stage.

Could a dealer pull an April's fool joke early? Like a day early?

Some advice please..Should I negotiate the car price first, then tell them the accessories I want? I am going to want the spoiler, door guards, moonroof visor and window visors. The spoiler retails for over $500.

You are better off getting all of the accessories down in writing first, and make clear that any offers include those accessories..

Otherwise, you end up negotiating a good deal, and after you have the car, they want to charge you list price for everything else..
