What should I pay? by chiefjs

I am in Mass. and I am getting ready to buy a 2005 TSX Auto w/nav, metal look interior trim($359 list), rear wing spoiler ($599), moonroof visor $125), door edge trim ($70), and door visors ($108).

MSRP and destination for the car, without the accessories is $29,560, Invoice $26,993, and with an $870 dealer holdback, wholesale is $26,123.

What do you think would be a fair price without taxes?

what percentage over invoice is reasonable by normp

I'm hoping to buy a 2005 tsx and would appreciate feedback on what I should be able to get one for over the invoice price. In Canada there is approximately $2700 difference between MSRP and Invoice. I know the invoice price but am not sure what a reasonable profit for the dealer would be over and above invoice. Any thoughts would be helpful

Have you tried playing dealerships off of each other via email? I have an offer of invoice price for a 2005 non-navi + wheel locks and tint. I know invoice is $24,784 USD + $570 destination. Wholesale would be roughly $24.5k because of the $800+ dealer holdback (3% of the $27,190 MSRP) which is an up front profit for them. I'm going to try for under invoice because I have a trade they can make money off of. You should try the same. Used '05's are hitting the classified ads if you want to consider a CPO. The 2006 models come out in September. If you want to wait on a new '05, I bet they will be more willing to deal when those new 06's start hitting the lots and they need to clear old inventory!

TSX PRICE & INSURANCE... by sylvest78

hello,
I did not even begin to negotiate and I was offered $27,150 for the tsx w/ nav. There is only a $100 processing fee + tax and tags.
This is pretty decent, right?

I will turn 21 in 25 days (at the end of April).
I have driven for almost 4 years. I have had 1 speeding ticket.

How much would be a reasonable rate for insurance on a new Acura tsx?
(I am able to be added on someone elses policy)

ANYBODY HAVE ANY SIMILAR SITUATIONS?
HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY for ins?

SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL I TURN 21 at the end of April until I buy?

It would not be worth buying a car and paying 3k+ more annually...
Please help, Thanks

Insurance is different in every state. If I were you, I would call a couple of insurance companies and get quotes. Nobody here will be able to give you a definitive answer unless they are in the exact same situation as you.

Good Luck.

I am looking to purchase a 2004 Certified Pre-Owned Acura TSX. Dealer is trying to sell it to me for $22K + TTT. Mileage 30K. I believe it is a little steep for a used car w/ high mileage. What is depreciation for this car ?
Advice Please

Hi everyone. I have a rather interesting experience that I wanted to share and get your input on because I’ve been left scratching my head wondering what went wrong. Sorry for the length but I wanted to give you the full story:

This past Thursday, I went to a local dealer here in St. Louis (there’s only two) with the intention of purchasing a new 2005 TSX. I had exchanged emails with the Internet Sales Manager about price and he offered the following: 2005 non-navi TSX with wheel locks, door edge guards, splash guards, and free synthetic oil and filter changes for 4 years/50k miles for $25,987. The price includes dealer processing fee ($117) and Acura destination charges ($545). There are no other fees.

I asked to speak to the Internet Sales Manager upon arriving. We talked and he pulled a silver TSX up for me to see. It has 14 miles on it. I asked to take it for a test drive. He hesitated but replied that we could as long as we stayed close to the dealership as it was about to close (it was around 5:30 and they close at 6:00 on Thursday). That was not the response I was expecting but I went on the test drive anyway and he joined us (also not what I was expecting). This wasn’t my first time driving a TSX as I had already test driven one at a different dealership.

After a short 10 minute drive following his directions, we arrived back at the dealership. He asked if I was considering trading in my current vehicle, a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo and I replied yes, but only if the price is right. He presented me with a printout from Edmunds.com of the estimated trade-in value (around $5900 I believe). The printout also had a circled handwritten figure of $6000 on it and he stated that that was his offer. I told him that was less than what I was expecting. He asked me what I had in mind and I replied that I was wanting at least blue book (as a side note, this dealership has been the only Acura one I’ve talked to that uses Edmunds.com instead of Kelly Blue Book – when I use Edmunds, I get a price of $6319). He went out and inspected my car (for the first time), came back in, and haggled with me a little more. I informed him that I had a couple of co-workers who were interested in the car if he didn’t want to agree to my price. I reminded him that it was in great condition, had low miles (55k), never been in an accident, etc. He told me he would see what he could do, and walked away.

Five minutes later he returned and said $6400 was a deal and shook my hand. He then sat down and began writing up the paperwork. At one point he stopped and said that he most likely wouldn’t be able to give me the car today since it was now after closing (by only 15 minutes or so). I replied that I wanted to leave tonight with the car as I was planning on driving it out of town tomorrow for a weekend trip. He said he would check and see what he could do.

He returned saying that I would have to come back tomorrow to pick up the car and close the deal as no one was available to complete the financing portion and get the car ready (yet there appeared to be another couple in an office close by that were closing a deal). We discussed this for a few minutes more and then I reluctantly agreed to return tomorrow. He then continued completing the paperwork.

At one point while completing the paperwork, he began writing down some details of my trade-in and asked, “Its 4 wheel drive, right” to which I corrected him and said that it was 2 wheel drive. He said that in that case, it would change everything and there’s no way he could offer me $6400 for it. I asked why not and he said it’s not worth that. He said it was actually worth thousands (plural) less. I replied that there wasn’t even that much difference in the price between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive when I purchased the vehicle new. I said the $6400 was the Kelly Blue Book value on a 2 wheel drive, 2000 Isuzu Rodeo with 55,800 miles, and in the good condition mine was (he had agreed with me earlier that the vehicle was in very good condition). This price was based on my home zip code here in St. Louis. According to Kelly Blue Book, the difference in trade-in value of a 2 wheel vs. 4 wheel drive version of my vehicle is only $500 or so more than what I was being offered. I told him that I had the Kelly Blue Book price printed out and the paper was in my vehicle. I went outside to get it and he followed me out, stopping at the door of the building. I brought the printout and showed it to him (the Kelly Blue Book trade-in price was actually a little more at $6480) and confirmed that it was for my vehicle’s specifications for the St. Louis area. He replied that it’s not worth that and there’s no way he could sell a 2 wheel drive in the Midwest. I told him that I purchased it new from the Isuzu dealership just down the road so there must be some market for it. He said he couldn’t take it as a trade-in, handed me my key, said “Thanks for your business”, and then walked inside. I was a little taken back by this as I was planning on purchasing the TSX regardless of whether or not he accepted my trade-in. I assumed that was understood based on our conversation up to that point. I was amazed that he was now walking away from a sale. I was given the impression that through out this whole ordeal, he did not see me as a serious buyer for some reason. Even though we had agreed on a price, I had financing in place, and we began the paperwork, he obviously wasn’t interested in selling me the car.

I sent a letter to the General Manager of the dealership explaining this but haven’t heard back yet.
