#675 of 4185 Navigation System and Sirrus Radio by scotth6

Jan 28, 2004 (2:38 pm)

I ordered An X3 3.0 with a sticker of $46 with most options except the navigation system. I have a 2002 M3 convertible and a 2003 M3 coupe.
I do not like the navigation system in my M3 and rarily use it, it malfunctioned and the entire unit was replaced under warranty. Maybe its my generation but I though it was a little difficult or maybe its just hard to shift a 6 speed and read a map. Anyway, my son who is 16 has no problems with it and uses it a lot.
My X3 should be delivered in the next two weeks and I was wanting to get the Sirrus radio option. Has anyone asked their dealer about it?
I believe its $12 a month but the radio upgrade is $500 and your X3 must be prewired which is $150-175 (mine will be prewired). I guess you guys in California and New York actually have stations to listen to but in South Carolina the pickins are slim for radio stations worth listening to.
Also as I have said in previous posts, I am trading in a 2001 X5 3.0 because the X3 has handling, better gas milage, better looks and I actually like the interior even if it isn't quite as nice as an X5. A 3 series interior isn't as nice as a 5 series so what is the big deal. The people who don't want a BMW should find another message board.

#676 of 4185 Music player access question by lfeiwel

Jan 28, 2004 (3:57 pm)

Apparently, on X5 and new 5s, there is a jack to access music players (like Ipod) that enables playing thru the stereo, and using controls on steering wheel.
does anyone know if it will be avail on the x3? and where (glove box, or back of car or ???)

I looked at the X3 at the autoshow and the DVD nav drive was located in the rear cargo area just in front of the left tail light assembly. It looks like there is more room back there for what I dont know. The dealer thinks the cd changer that fits in the 5 series glove box will be the model that goes in the center console for the X3.

#679 of 4185 Mark: GPS Location by glenberk

I know the area in the back left that you are talking about. My salesperson and I have looked around behind the rear inside panels several times. The large X3 brochure states that the CD changer goes between the seats in the console. But we thought (maybe incorrectly) that the dvd navigation unit fit there too. Why? Because my X3 2.5i withouth PP would normally not--again not--come with a center armrest between the front seats. But when we added the gps nav system the bmw order computer added the center console armrest for free...no charge. We figured the center armrest was being added in order to cover the dvd unit inside. But I rather have the dvd unit in the back rear as you state. And I'll have the armrest as well!

ulep: You say it is available on the x3 as an option. Is that a factory or dealer installed option? I missed that one entirely.

#681 of 4185 How Many--Too Many!!! by bmwbob27

I quest I should thank you for the underlined sarcastic inquiry as to how many and which BMW have you owned???
You really know how to hurt a guy. You made me count up how many BMW's that I have bought since 1986. On 1/17/04, I purchased number 10 and 11, if you can count a Mini Cooper as a BMW,(which it is). I bought a 2004 X-5 and a 2004 325 Wagon. And tonight I brought home a 2003 325 sedan for my daughter to consider purchasing. I dropped off the wagon to have the homelink installed and program the keys and locks and was given a 325 to take home. You see my user name is not a cliche. I am a real BMW believer and enthusiastic about their vehicles. Hope that satisfies your curiosity. (sarcastic)

As of 5:00p.m. this evening the 6 X-3's were still available to purchase. They had traded 1 of the black ones to another dealer and received a silver in exchange. This dealership has not even had any negotiating offers to consider and only 3 orders have been taken. These 6 X-3's have been there for 10 days now. They say that there are many people test driving the demo and looking over the other demo in the showroom but no real serious buyers. They would consider at least $1,500 off of MSRP if it was offered!!
I waited with great enthusiasm for over a year for the X-3. I went to San Francisco on the first day and drove to Sacramento on the next day to be the first to drive the X-3. I drove it for over 20 miles and about 30 minutes. I then placed my name on 1 of the six open allocations for January production and February deliver. I requested one of the 2.5's and in black exterior with black interior. It was the only option for my wife and I as the bumpers are so big and black that black exterior would hide them. The same with the gray carpeted interior. I was impressed with the driving and handling with great agility but very disappointed with the size and interior appointments. The cost was also a factor. I then drove the X-3 in Marin 3 separate times. The last on Saturday before I bought the X-5. I had previously canceled my order with Sacramento. I just re affirmed my previous feelings that the X-3 is just too over priced for what you receive. Believe me, I understand other posters, that this is MY OPINION. If you like it then go for it. After all it is a BMW and you can't go wrong. It just is not for me.

You made me count my BMW's and now I'm thinking of how much money these purchases and sales have cost me$$$ Thanks for putting me into depression.
I guess that I enjoy buy in high and selling low. I do this with my stocks also. Thank God for a good credit rating so that I can maintain my habits. (buying cars).

#682 of 4185 My 9th BMW by scotth6

Jan 29, 2004 (7:08 am)

My X3 will be my 9th BMW since 1995. Regarding the gray interior of the X3 I can tell you that my X5 that I am trading had the silver interior and I will never do a silver interior again. Dirt and wear shows on the seats, carpet, and especially in the back where you carry things. My 2001 330cic also had the silver interior and it showed dirt and the silver leather was hard to keep clean. I ordered the X3 with the Terracota seats which includes black carpet and dash to hide dirt. I have had several Grand Cherokee's in the past and learn ed not to ever again get a light color interior in a sport ulitity. My 2003 M3 has red leather and black carpet and never shoes dirt or wear.
Regarding the X3 and the bumpers being black its no different than the X5 and nobody complains about it. I did get a black exterior but lived with a silver X5 for 31/2 years with black molding all over the lower part of the vehicle.

I agree. I look back upon my purchase of premium Hondas and Toyotas as depressing. I could have saved big $$$ by buying cheapo American cars.

After all they are basic transportation, right? Just to get to point a and b. After all, who needs leather and performance to get from point a to point b?

#684 of 4185 Starck by wwill

Why do we have those fantastic beautifull creative contemporary Starck-design chairs in our dining room? Eating is also perfect on wooden benches!
Living and transport are the same basic importancies in life, aren't they?
