2024 Kia Sportage
I am 6'5" and my wife is 5'4". We have always found it a challenge to find cars that fit both of us but now at 70 years old the fit is even more important. We have a C-Max that works for us but we wanted a little more room all around for this next car. I made a list of most compact SUV's on the market. We tried Tuscon, Rav4, Equinox, Escape, Edge, CR-V, Rogue, CX-5, Compass, Cherokee, … Terrain, Renegade, Murano, Enclave, Seltos, Kona, CR-V, and Sportage. For two days we sat in all of these and drove most of them. All of them were disappointing in terms of driver/passenger comfort, or drivability, or clear vision of the road and the front of the vehicle. The Rogue gave us some hope that we might actually find a car that would work. And then we tried the Sportage. The seats were comfortable, the view was excellent for both of us, the size was great, and the ride was outstanding. And while we have found many good salespeople Kia does a lot to train and monitor their salesforce and support people. Too often professional reviewers go the direction of the CX-5 because of the sporty driving experience. When was the last time your commute, drive to the store, or vacation trip allowed or encouraged sport tuned suspension? The Sportage just felt right for us, it was quiet, the fit, finish, and drivetrain behavior had American models beat. And I'm not sure any manufacturer has incorporated tech well because that target keeps moving. The infotainment interface in the Sportage is responsive, has lots of options for the car as well as for media. And I am told the AWD makes it feel like you are on rails on the wintry Michigan roads.
