| You asked me about the Murano since I did not vote for any suv...It looks good for its class, and the nissan / infiniti group has got some nice exteriors now. I just don't see myself behind the wheel of something that "big". The fx45 commands some attention from me, because of its huge wheels which I think gives it presence. As always, these things come down to some emotional connection and it's interesting to "who connects with what" on this board....and then when color enters into it, well this could go on and on...I thought the z was nice in red until I saw the Lemans sunset color; now I don't like the red at all. Can't explain it... | |

I think the Nissan Murano looks great (even if I don't want/need one). Like the FX as well. Curiously you have the Volvo crossover and the Audi allroad that are sort of in this segment as well, but I don't care for those or see a purpose to them. Things are also so blurred it is unclear which of all of these are closer to SUVs and which are closer to station wagens.... |

I have very mixed feelings about wood OR metal trim. I'm categorically against fake wood or "metal-look" trim. I have no philosophical problem with plastic as long as it's decently solid and not cheap or crunchy. Plastic-wood or the awful wood appliques (read "decals") used on older American cars are just wretched. Actual metal trim sometimes looks neat, but it has some serious practical problems. Glare in bright sunlight is one (nothing like being blinded by the flare off your own dashboard). Another is a tendency to get too hot or too cold. Those bare-metal shifters that look so keen in the showroom are a lot less appealing in Minnesota in January or Arizona in August, as they become frostbite-cold or yowie-hot in the parked car. Carbon fiber trim is tacky, whether it's real or not. Carbon fiber has a number of virtues, but aesthetic appeal is not among them. I don't like the interior of the 7-series any better than I like the exterior. The traditional BMW "cockpit" styling may be a bit contrived and old hat, but I don't like Scandanavian furniture, so I certainly don't like automotive interiors that look like Scandanavian furniture. It falls well behind either the Jaguar XJ8 (which at least has a homey English men's club ambience, if the details don't bear close examination) or the Audi A8 (which is conservative but solid). I don't like the Mercedes S-class interiors, either. They've got lots of leather and wood, but it's just stuck on with nothiing resembling a design theme, so the cabins end up feeling like upscale Camrys. Not exactly _bad_, but not worth $80,000 and up. |

I loved the comments. But I left being very curious as to what interiors you do like. You note being "okay" with Audi and XJ8. What interiors do you like irrespective of price (i.e. cheaper or more expensive models)? I take it you are not an Ikea fan... |

| had styling of previous XJ-8. It is almost impossible to tell the two apart from each other.... | |

This is what's in my 3 series... It's so well executed that I've been lured for months before realizing they were actually plastic! The day I noticed in was when I tried to clean them with a metal cleaning product, only to see that it had no effect, whereas my plastic cleaning spray did clean it up! I don't like the looks of carbon, but that's just me. As to fake wood, well, I've only ever seen it in Peugeots and Fords, and it looked really fake, without even prodding it. Real wood I'm not fond of. I'll stay with my good looking faux aluminium |

you just didn't know it... I think the real question is who has real wood these days (Jaguar, S,E class mercedes)... |

Pictures have been released of the 2004 5-Series. Very nice. For those that haven't seen it, will be on Internet soon. 1. Eye-brow headlights look nice, understanded 2. Trunk is low-keyed version of 7-series (much nicer and more tasteful). 3. Interior ergonomics look similar to 7-series, but friendler. I-drive gets small spot behind emergency/hand brake. 4. Window controls on driver doors, classic gauge look. 5. Pointed steering wheel already in use.. Looks very nice to me. Lots of high tech, but ergonomically friendlier is my understanding. |

I really don't like this new 5-Series, but I'll wait until I can actually "see" it. http://www.germancarfans.com/News.cfm?NewsID=2030401.001 M |

I kind of liked the look. I agree that it is not as pure as the old look, but that was starting to look dated. Striking similarity to 3-series was also a problem. I suspect much of the value of this car is handling in any case... I also suspect that if they continued with the old look it would really start to look dated in 2-3 years. The interior is similar in look to z4 if you liked that. |
