#1195 of 1407 My ES 2005 Transmission Troubles
May 16, 2006 (10:36 pm)
Ok, gang, here I am. I leased a 2005 ES 330 in August of 2005. After hours of ownership, I noticed hesitation, lurching and stumbling in my car. I could not take it back that day due vacation plans, but took it back the next week. The head mechanic rode with me in the car and apologized and said the car has a problem, they have attempted to fix it with software, but are unable to do so as of that date. I demanded a meeting with the Lexus Representative, Jeff Norris, he came out and went for a drive and I demonstrated the problem twice in a row during a panic stop and an attempt to accelerate. It hesitated, lurched and stumbled on demand. This is the answer to the Calfornia Rolling Stop! If you do that, you will be jerked around like a rag doll. Even Customer Service at Corporate Lexus in Torrance told me there is a problem and they are sorry. That does not cut it! I have demanded they take the car back and refund my money - so far, they say they are processing it. Same story now since January! I am bitterly disappointed with Lexus and would not recommend the cars anymore to anyone. I am a 5 time Toyota product owner. I took my car to the local Toyota dealer and the service people tell me they have the same problem with 2002-2006 Camrys. Last one for me.

Just wait till you drive it for a while. It will do the same thing the other ES330's do. Try coming to almost a stop and accelerating! You will be shocked. Now, try a panic stop and attempt to immediately accelerate! Be sure to put your neck brace on.

I know it is no consolation to you since you definitely have a problem car, but it appears that not all of them exhibit the problem to the same degree and some don't seem to have any problem at all. It is possible that fredvh won't have any problems.
As far as your problem, my advice is be squeaky (i.e., the squeaky wheel gets the grease) and continue to voice your complaints to Lexus. You probably want to get to someone at the corporate level rather than the dealership. I am reading more of Lexus and Toyota taking care of people who have this problem (see Shepali's write ups here and alan_s in the Avalon forum).

I bought a used ES 300. Drives like a dream. No transmission problem. It is a silver 2003 model

I am thinking about buying a 1999 Lexus ES 300 from a dealer. It has 165,000 miles, the dealer is asking for $7,999 for it. It has a rebuilt transmission with warranty, and new tires. Should I buy this car? Please let me know what you think, thanks.

I'll check the mileage again in awhile since the dealer filled up the car with premium fuel when I picked it up........I don't know whether they filled it to the brim, but I drove about 220 miles and put in 8 gallons. This was a combination of city & parkway driving. Not bad.....27.5 mpg!!

I am going to guess that you live in an area that is fairly flat, i.e. devoid of hills and mountains. Is this true?
I will also guess that you did not stop for fast food ever during the time you got that great gas mileage.

Price is high retail price. It had better be very very clean for this money. Miles are a little scary though...more like 110K-125K would be nice if you could find one. At 165K you might not have but a few years left in this car.

Thanks amf1932 for the info. Did you happen to see what the driver information computer had for that tank of gas? When I fill mine up next time I will advise as to the mpg that I get.
