Mike,

Here's my 2 cents worth. Hope it's helpful.

"1. What type of discount should I get on a 2006 vs. a 2007? Trying to decide if I should wait for 2007's especially if they can't find the color I want in an '06."

If you are buying, you will get a much better price on the last of the 2006s as compared to the first of the 2007s. There is $500 marketing support (manufacturer to dealer cash), which makes it easy in most places to buy a 2006 Ody at invoice minus $500. Also, there's low interest rate financing - 2.9% up to 36 months and 4.9% up to 60 months.

If you are leasing, then you may as well wait for a 2007. Notwithstanding steep discounts on the last of the 2006s, monthly lease payments are high because the current leasing program is so bad (a market money factor coupled with low residuals). I'm looking for a better lease program when the 2007s come out. At least residuals should be much higher, which should help a lot.

"2. Any thoughts on the MDX vs. the Odyssey? Both have 3 rows of seats..van slightly bigger but not as much as I thought...."

Your eyes must be playing tricks on you. Look at the specs. The Ody has nearly double the roominess of the MDX.
The 3rd row of the MDX is cramped and difficult to access. Not meant for adults or teens.

That said, with only 2 kids, I would think the MDX is spacious enough.

I have 3 kids, 2 of them teenagers. I looked at a whole host of 3-row SUV and crossover alternatives, including the MDX. Those that are in a similar price range to the Ody are much too small. Those that are big enough are prohibitively more expensive and awful on gas. To me, the Ody is the best value and most practical choice.

"3. I read something here about the 2007 having a larger RES screen..Anyone else heard that?"

I have no idea.

It may interest you to know that while I have the RES in my 2004 Ody, I have decided not to get it again on my 2006 or 2007. I found that we didn't get much use out of it and that usage diminished over time. Cool at first. But after the novelty wears off, it is hard to justify this costly ($1,500) option. You could get each kid a handheld DVD player for a small fraction of the cost.

This helps a lot...thanks for your perspective. I just found a black one w/o DVD...perhaps you're right that we could live w/o that....

Another consideration, taking into account the high price of gas these days, is that not only does the Ody (especially higher trim levels with VCM) get substantially better gas mileage than the MDX, but the Ody uses regular gas whereas the MDX requires premium gas.

If 4WD is important to you, check out the Sienna because it's still somehow not available on an Ody.

Odyssey and/or Pilot by oneils

I'm so confused. Presently, my husband and I have an '05 Pilot and '99 Altima. We are trying to decide which car to trade in for the Odyssey.

We have 2 kids (8 and 2) and 1 on the way. I'm trying to make the most economica sense out of our car situation. The Pilot can fit all 3, but it will be tight. Neither of us are car people, so if the Altima goes out, we will be paying a lot to fix it.

So, what do we do? Trade in the Pilot for the Odyssey and fix up the Altima until it's paid off next year or trade in the Altima which will leave us terribly upside down and get the Odyssey. (The other thing is that I don't like the idea of 2 big cars.)

Any help thinking me through this would be appreciated!

I think we need more info before offering suggestions. In particular, it would be helpful to know at least the following:

1. Your 1999 Altima. Do you own it or lease it? In either case, what is the monthly payment and how much longer do you have to go? How many miles does it have? What kind of costly repairs are you anticipating?

2. Your 2005 Pilot. Do you own it or lease it? In either case, what is the monthly payment and how much longer do you have to go?

Before deciding on the Touring model be sure to read the thread on PAX tires.

Excellent point!

Too bad there's some nice features (such as power hatch) that you can only get on the Touring model which comes with those PAX tires.

Could be another reason to wait for the 2007s, though I do not know if Honda is making any changes in these respects (be it either more features available on the EX trim line, or get-flat tires on the Touring model).

I wouldn't count on Honda having an option of 'normal' non-RFTs on the Touring anytime soon. I've heard scuttlebutt that if anything, Honda will be expanding the 'availability' (ie: standard equipment) of PAX tires on some Accords and the Acura RL (for either '07 or '08 models).

A better bet might be Honda offering the power rear hatch to the EX-L. But I haven't heard anything to that effect either.

If run flat tires are referred to as "RFTs," let's refer to normal tires as "GFTs." "GFTs" stands for get flat tires.

Jt sounds like there are a lot of people who are in need of some good poop on the '07s. Any one out there with reliable data?
