I'm new to this but can see how it might become addictive....We're trying to decide between buying our leased Acura MDX that we love or turning it in and buying an Odyssey EX-L RES. Our 2nd child is due any day. Few questions: 1. What type of discount should I get on a 2006 vs. a 2007? Trying to decide if I should wait for 2007's especially if they can't find the color I want in an '06. 2. Any thoughts on the MDX vs. the Odyssey? Both have 3 rows of seats..van slightly bigger but not as much as I thought.... 3. I read something here about the 2007 having a larger RES screen..Anyone else heard that? Thanks! Mike

We have a 9 month old and since there is no latch system in the center seat we have her seat on the passenger side (one of the reasons). That is side to enter the third row.... Needless to say only way in is through the hatchback - because I am not taking the seat base in and out all the time. I think this would be a problem with the car seat in the center as well. Another issue with car seats is there is not a lot of room between the front seat and the second seat, so the front passenger seat is nearly all the way forward to get her car seat in the second row. Not a great option if you are tall like I am. If the child is in a booster seat all is well with that, but we are not there yet - but you still have the issue of getting to the third seat. As for storage, there is a good amount in the MDX, but we run out and we only have 1 kid. She does have a large stroller though. We are looking at the Touring Odyssey, and the wife just loves the power doors and lift gate. She has issues with the MDX lift gate. It is heavy and she cannot reach it that well. #3 - don't know. Hope this helps. If you have specific questions, just email me.

Replying to: gtwendt (Jul 25, 2006 6:29 am) I think our real problem is giving up the "look" of the MDX and going for the "practicality" of the van. The Odyssey is no doubt very nice on the inside...but it seems a lot of people give us a hard time on giving in to the minivan idea (who cares, right!). It's hard for me to spend more money on a minivan that doesn't look "cool" when I have a perfectly good MDX that costs less and looks good. I know it all sounds pretty stupid.... We have a 3 year old and the MDX has been just fine. However, we have another baby coming any time (induced tomorrow) so the minivan is sounding a little better. Also struggling with whether or not $20K is an ok price to pay for the MDX (residual value). Trade in is around 18K and retail is around 22K...not sure what the best financial decision is. Thanks for listening!

Trying to decide if I should wait for 2007's especially if they can't find the color I want in an '06." If you are buying, you will get a much better price on the last of the 2006s as compared to the first of the 2007s. There is $500 marketing support (manufacturer to dealer cash), which makes it easy in most places to buy a 2006 Ody at invoice minus $500. Also, there's low interest rate financing - 2.9% up to 36 months and 4.9% up to 60 months. If you are leasing, then you may as well wait for a 2007. Notwithstanding steep discounts on the last of the 2006s, monthly lease payments are high because the current leasing program is so bad (a market money factor coupled with low residuals). I'm looking for a better lease program when the 2007s come out. At least residuals should be much higher, which should help a lot. "2. Any thoughts on the MDX vs. the Odyssey? Both have 3 rows of seats..van slightly bigger but not as much as I thought...." Your eyes must be playing tricks on you. Look at the specs. The Ody has nearly double the roominess of the MDX. The 3rd row of the MDX is cramped and difficult to access. Not meant for adults or teens. That said, with only 2 kids, I would think the MDX is spacious enough. I have 3 kids, 2 of them teenagers. I looked at a whole host of 3-row SUV and crossover alternatives, including the MDX. Those that are in a similar price range to the Ody are much too small. Those that are big enough are prohibitively more expensive and awful on gas. To me, the Ody is the best value and most practical choice. "3. I read something here about the 2007 having a larger RES screen..Anyone else heard that?" I have no idea. It may interest you to know that while I have the RES in my 2004 Ody, I have decided not to get it again on my 2006 or 2007. I found that we didn't get much use out of it and that usage diminished over time. Cool at first. But after the novelty wears off, it is hard to justify this costly ($1,500) option. You could get each kid a handheld DVD player for a small fraction of the cost.

I'm so confused. Presently, my husband and I have an '05 Pilot and '99 Altima. We are trying to decide which car to trade in for the Odyssey. We have 2 kids (8 and 2) and 1 on the way. I'm trying to make the most economica sense out of our car situation. The Pilot can fit all 3, but it will be tight. Neither of us are car people, so if the Altima goes out, we will be paying a lot to fix it. So, what do we do? Trade in the Pilot for the Odyssey and fix up the Altima until it's paid off next year or trade in the Altima which will leave us terribly upside down and get the Odyssey. (The other thing is that I don't like the idea of 2 big cars.) Any help thinking me through this would be appreciated!

How many miles does it have? What kind of costly repairs are you anticipating? 2. Your 2005 Pilot. Do you own it or lease it? In either case, what is the monthly payment and how much longer do you have to go?
