Dealer Doc Fees by adnips

I just faxed 6 dealers in the Atlanta area to purchase a new 2009 Murano. Two quotes have already come back with $489 doc fees. Has anyone else run into this profit enhancer? Have you been able to negotiate them down or eliminated all together? Personally I'm not to excited about paying this obvious ploy for more profit. Any help will be appreciated.

I got a quote yesterday from an Atlanta dealer who wanted $599 in doc fees.. that's the highest I've seen yet. Here in SC, the doc fees seem to be between $299 and $399 which is still outrageous .. My answer to that when they say they can't do anything about the doc fees is, "OK then lower the sell price"... I think $100 bucks for doc fees is reasonable if they are finding you financing otherwise it's a ridiculous profit maker.

I just purchased a 09 Murano and the doc fee was 139 and the whole deal was basically done online. I was at 2 other dealerships which had 299 and 249 as their doc fees. Those dealerships gave comporable prices and were willing to bring the price of the car down to meet the same OTD as the dealership with the 139 doc fee. 500 doc fee seems outragious. They have to disclose how they are coming up with that number once you sit down to sign a deal. I would find out how they come up with that number and make them lower the price of the car to make up for that high fee. I think the fees are non-negotiable since everyone who bought a car from that dealership could then sue the dealership saying that they were unfairly charged excessive fees that other customers didn't have to pay but the price of the car is always negotiable.

It goes to show you that it matters where you live. I'm a CT resident also. Got my new 2009 Murano LE in Sapphire Blue with black leather interior with everything Except the moon roof, NAV & tow package for $35,065. After seeing other posters say how the dealerships wouldn't give them a break I was a little scared. But I knew what I wanted and the dealership, Girard Nissan of Groton, went so far as to configure it to order from Japan for me because they couldn't find it in the U.S. inventory. Luckily one popped up in inventory search (it was in Texas) a week later. Now I am the proud owner of the ONLY one like it in this part of the country configured like that. SWEET!

I also got a replacement policy for those very expensive 20" wheels. For five years I get at least two flat incidents and one replacement from any Nisssan dealer in the contiguous US. My cost per incident can't exceed $1600. That takes a load off my mind and my wallet.

Just when I thought I was tired of driving I am in love again. This SUV is great and I am glad I stuck to my guns and got exactly what I wanted because it is more than worth it.

In the Memphis area, I have found some dealers add non negotiable doc fees of $349. And, some automatically add the protection package to all of their cars for $299.95.

I'm looking for a tinted bronze SL w/premium package only [& mats and splash guards], and its apparently a tough find. Found one, but it sold before I could get on it. Told the dealer if he found one to not add the protection package.

None of the dealers were aware of an April rebate.

I don't think all of the internet sales folks are actually searching for me, so I will expand my dealer search, and also participate in the search myself.

Is there any way to just do a specific vehicle search, rather than searching each dealer's inventory?

Why would they tell you about a april rebate? they want you to buy the car now..

Whats the protection package? vehicle etching??

if you go on nissan's website.. you can search the inventories of all the nissan dealers in your area.. you might find the car you want.

An FYI for those in the Washington DC / Balitmore / PA area looking to buy a 09 Murano soon. While reseaching LE prices, I saw today that FitzMall has lowered their price to $600 below invoice. So either Nissan is providing some dealer assistance or Fitzgerald sure wants to hit a sales target.

So far, the April rebate is merely a rumor--or a wish. Sure hope the new Fitzgerald pricing of $600 below invoice spreads to local dealers.

For protection package see #1636 above. Window etching is a new one to me.

I've used the dealer inventory search via Nissan's web site, but it is kind of ponderous to review 70 dealers [400 mile radius] one dealer at a time. I was hoping for a more efficient search process.
