I've never heard of any publication citing that you should pay 8% over true cost on a vehicle.

Most seem to advise 2-3% over invoice price on vehicles with hold back and slightly more on those without a holdback.

Certainly not 8%.

While it might be frustrating for you that Internet shoppers are looking for the best deal, regardless of your commission, there are plenty of suckers out there that you can still sell a car at full MSRP.

Not to mention all the chumps that you can sell into horrible financing deals and get a nice little extra profit.

Or the high dollar warranties and extras that get sold with many cars.

Ya, not feeling to sorry for the poor sales person who gets only $100 commission on a car.

What happened was the internet. And it is STILL very difficult to find out the true dealers cost. It is a rough time to be a new car salesman. New car dealers make their profits on service, warranties, and most of all on used car sales.

Drove this beauty home today, what a deal! by ggcars

We went in today at 3pm to test drive our pre-negotiated 2009 SL FWD (Premium, Leather, Tech, Moon Roof $31,149). No FWD on lot so we tried the AWD with an offered price of $31,749. No Moon Roof when we test drove it. This car was to replace our 2003 Mercedes E320 which we loved but wanted something under warranty. To get the same luxury features the Mercedes had we thought we'd try the LE as well. Needless to say we loved the LE but at $38,345 we hadn't planned to go there.

But at 7:30pm we drove off in our new 2009 LE Murano - Platinum Graphite, with all the bells and whistle except for Nav and DVD for $34,900 (plus tax and $90 license fee). It took an extremely long time through the finance department so they also offered us a $25 gift certificate at a local restaurant, 2 free tanks of gas, and tickets to the Brewers game of our choice from the owner! Now that is what I call a great deal and great customer service. This was in Milwaukee at Rosen Nissan.

If you are buying in Milwaukee or Illinois check out Rosen.

Should I hold out until April? by 2009holdout

Received a quote today from a dealer in the SouthEast, not sure if holding out until April will bring any add'l discounts. Appreciate feedback on this deal:

2009 Murano SL 2WD
-Technology Package
-Premium Package
-Moonroof
- Leather
-Splash Guards
-FloorMats
-Cargo Protector
-Dealer add-ons (Pinstriping $79.00, Wheel locks $89.00)
Sub Total MSRP $34,993

Sale Price: $31,576.00 + Doc Fee $399.00 = $31,975 * sales tax and tags not included.

Can I expect better .. the doc fee is a killer but the sales price is already into the holdback.

A very respectable price is about $500 over invoice on an LE, that'll pay your sales person about a $100 commission!

On one hand -- I'm pretty sure that the salesperson's commission is the least of my worries when I negotiate a price.

On the other -- if I was a salesperson, I'd allocate my time accordingly based on my compensation. If you're wondering why your salesperson won't give you the time of day for post-sale issues after your below-invoice deal, that's probably why.

I just ordered a new 09 LE Murano Friday the 21st - paid invoice + $200.
(I think this was a fair deal)

The dealer has offered a protection plan - includes:
auto car wash for life of car ownership (one a week)
undercoating & soundshield (whatever that is)
rust protection
paint sealant
interior protection

all for $997.00
Should I do this & do I need it???
It sounds like a good deal to me

please let me know what you all think about this

Thanks
Scott
