#1992 of 2342 Nissan Murano (2005) CVT Fluid Change Frequency
Mar 20, 2008 (6:19 pm)
I've been told two conflicting time tables in terms of when I should be changing the CVT fluid on my 2005 Murano. One Nissan dealership says don't bother at 33K miles since I'm a low mileage single driver. The other dealership says they would do a partial change to see what that tells them after that's done AND to determine if in fact a total CVT transmission change is needed. Does anyone know what the frequency is for a 2005 Nissan Murano at the 32K mile mark. What is the price I'd expect to pay per quart, how many quarts does it take, and is this something a savy technically inclined homeowner could do? Thanks, Wayne
#1993 of 2342 transmission service

I was told by the service tech to change the transmission fluids at 60,000 miles on my '05 Murano. But his boss the service manager came out and told him that because they are sealed nothing needs to be done to the transmission until 100,000 miles.
#1994 of 2342 2004 Murano Intermittent System Lock-up after Ignition
Apr 01, 2008 (12:51 pm)
I have a 2004 AWD Murano with 47K miles. It's had the automatic door lock problem and the transmission problem (required full replacement) and a host of little annoyances, but still like the car. Now near the end of its 50K warranty with a new, dangerous problem: turn on the engine (can be cold, on a hill or flat, doesn't matter), release the emergency brake, and the entire system freezes, locks up. Sometimes it's in Reverse and sometimes it's still in Park, but once it's frozen, there's no controlling it -- steering wheel, shifter and brakes are locked. The only thing is to turn it off to reset it. Sometimes it happens multiple times a day; sometimes once a week. It got dangerous when parked on a downward slope, trying to back out, and it started rolling forward into the car in front of it. Quickly turned off the ignition and set the emergency brake to avert an accident. Dealer is looking at it but can't replicate problem, of course. Would very much appreciate hearing anyone's experience with this or ideas about what's wrong.
#1995 of 2342 Leaving Forum - Thanks!

Folks, this has been a great forum and I appreciate all of the input and comments. I made a decision and got the 2008 MDX with the tech and entertainment packages, so it is fully loaded.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the group before I leave.
#1998 of 2342 Trigger shy on another Nissan
Apr 04, 2008 (4:47 pm)
I'lll pick up where you left off... I've been checking out this forum for a few months and been contacting my local Nissan dealers for Murano $$$'s. But to be honest the more I read about 1st generation tranny problems the more I'm leaning toward Toyota/Honda products. My '00 Maxima has been decent yet ate through 5 sets of front rotors, a slipping tranny but nothing else major with 136k on the clock.
So I'm a little trigger shy of pulling it on another Nissan. I'm a gizmo nut and when you compare the Murano to better mpg CR-V/RAV 4/Rogue they've got little to offer.
I'm going to pull the trigger and a couple of weeks and need to make a decision ASAP.
Perhaps a nice incentive or low APR could sway me back to Nissan???

Had the seat problem at 22,000 miles. The seat would rock back and forth and tilt upwards. Nissan fixed the problem free and gave me a free loaner car for the day. Everything went nice and smooth so I'm happy with that. The cause states "failure of seat linkage". As far as the squeeky brakes I had the same problem for awhile with the 07 SL but it has went away on it's own. I never took it to Nissan or complained cause I knew there was'nt much they could or would do. It stopped the sqeeling at about 15,000 miles I think. It will every great now and again but it's very light. So far so good with the Murano.

Same problem. It hangs down half way. So annoying.
