#912 of 2055 some general thoughts on 4runners rising gas prices and 05 v8 4x4 sports
Mar 16, 2005 (10:42 pm)
is it too soon to buy a 4runner?
the one drawback listed by consumers is mediocre gas mileage. I'm wondering if the high gas prices expected by spring/summer $3/gal+ will cause toyota to offer bigger rebates etc.
I understand there are large discounts to be had on the 2004's but 4me the upgrade in hp and twist on the 05 v-8 is significant and worth getting. plus the resale should be much better. i have a boat to tow and am tired of straining 6 cylinder motors. when i had a 99v8 truck it was like owning a sports car meant for towing boats! I also towed with a v6 mazda mpv van, currently with a straight 6 jeep cherokee and never again!
plus the new v-8 and fly by wire throttle are supposed to really go fast when not towing.
I'm looking at getting a sport with moon roof, extra air bags, spoiler, for roughly 30k after rebate but w/o tax and license. whaddaya think?
Question for the roving edmonds guy. how come the extra air bags aren't listed as an option in your research?
One last thing, can you guess my age!!!

#914 of 2055 Deals on leftover 2004s
Mar 17, 2005 (11:03 am)
I too have heard about good deals on left-over 2004s. And, I understand that Toyota has given dealers some cash to facilitate unloading 04 stock. Does anybody have a handle on just how much someone can expect. For instance, are they going under invoice? If so, how much? I'm going to look at a couple 04 SR5s this weekend. I really was thinking about an 05 because of the transmission change, but if I could save big-time, I might consider an 04.

I am also interested in buying a leftover 04 limited with the V8 engine. Any info on additional rebates, cash back, etc would be helpful with the dreaded negotiation process. Also, has anyone purchased from Darcars.com and then shipped the vehicle out of state. If so, how does taht process work. Thanks.

Yep. I'm replying to my own message: Tadaaaah!. Took the plunge yesterday on a leftover '04.
As follows: SR5 4WD, Pac Blue, 3rd Row, running lgts, x-bar on roof, some other little stuff, about $1500 less than invoice. Took me about an hour. Found a no-BS dealer outside of Buffalo. I'm happy with the deal, ecstatic about the truck. Even though I'd been shopping for quite a while, this was the first one I actually drove. Impressive. Also sprung for the Extended Warranty from Toyota. Plan to keep this thing for at least 7 years. As far as I'm concerned, the warranty is money well-spent. Left-overs can still be found. I figure I saved at least $3K, more than enough to make me forget about that 5th gear in the trans.

an '05 SR5 V-8 4X4 with power moon roof, double-decker cargo system, stainless steel exhaust tip, carpeted floor/cargo mats, auto day/night mirror, 115V power outlet, roof rails w/ crossbars, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls and 17" aluminum wheels. Sticker was $34,355, invoice was $30,918. I paid $82 over invoice plus $200 doc fee ($31,200 total). I opted for the 0.9% financing for 36 months over the $1,000 rebate. This vehicle replaces an '03 Ford Explorer NBX which was a POS from day one. Took a test drive and really liked the smoothness and quickness of the V-8 coupled with the 5-speed auto tranny. Take delivery sometime this week. CAN'T WAIT!
