Bought my mazda3s in Jan. and have not been able to use the navigation system while driving.....I know this is for safety reasons......but if I'm low on gas on the highway....pulling to the shoulder to search for a gas station on the nav. system makes no sense.....anyone know how to override this feature......

Hello all, getting ready to graduate after going back to college, and thinking of a new car in the near future. The Mazda 3 is at the top of the short list being considered. I noticed on the website of, shall we say, a leading Consumer magazine you might have heard of, that there is feedback on the 3 from a fair number of owners who routinely complain the the A/C is weak and inadequate. Can folks here who own one and live in a hot climate ( I live in Kansas City with 100 degree summer days ) give me some feedback on whether this is a problem with the car? I am one of those few people who is not a big hot weather fan and does not mind cold, so I'd rather be too cold than too hot, so if anything I want an A/C unit that can keep up with the heat, not one that can barely keep the cabin tolerable on a hot sunny day. Thoughts on this much appreciated. Thanks! Matt

It, combined with the black leather, does not keep up on summer days. It's not intolerable, but just irritating. I've been told that window tint helps, but I havent tried that yet. That said, the car is great, and surpasses pretty much all comers. The stongest competitor is the civic, which trades the performance for mileage. I wouldnt nix the 3 from your shopping list yet, but I would test drive it and the competitors in the summer if possible to see if the weak AC is a dealbreaker.

I may be getting old, as I'm starting to change my thinking on this front, having gone the perf route in the past, but lately I find myself appreciating high 30's-40's MPG too ( I drive an old diesel VW Golf currently and enjoy the combination of $2.75 diesel and 46 MPG routinely ). I'll give the Civic and 3 and probably the new Lancer ( drove it, very nice ) the top 3 spots in the list at this point. I'll probably give them all the critical eye and see how much MPG matters to me versus fun to drive. |

My AC is weak - Mazda's response to the problem was HORRIBLE. My daughter -who feels cold when its 85 degrees outside - took over the Mazda3 last year - she is OK with the AC - except on real hot days when the car has been sitting in the sun. Tinting the windows helped - I also like the look better with darker windows. I made the mistake of buying a black car with black interior and a weak AC - never again. My wife & I really liked the Mazda3 - but hated the weak AC. Take a rest drive on a hot day - after the car has been in the sun for a while - some cars cool better than others. If you get a weak AC Mazda will do nothing to fix it. |
