Mazda MAZDA6, Hatchback, Sedan, Wagon
#842 of 2415 Almost pulled the trigger, but...
Nov 06, 2004 (8:36 pm)
I've been on the fence on the Mazda6 for years, and I've been waiting to be right side-up on my current car loan (on a 2003 Golf) and making more money financially. So with that said, I went to test drive a '05 6i 5-door. As I expected, great handling, striking exterior, and cargo-capabilities galore. I went there knowing that another dealership had the car I was looking for ('04 6i 5-door, but that dealership is 3 hours away) but wanted to bargain for it near home. So after I sat down and haggles with the salesman- with my TMV sheet handy- I got him down to a somewhat decent price. This is how it broke down:
2004 Mazda 6i 5-door (Steel Grey) $21,615
-Bose Audio Package
Total: $25,000 msrp
After figuring it my trade-in (which I would have owed them $1,400) and rebates, the OTD price was $20,650. Not bad, but I was unsatisfied with the bargaining experience. They kept trying to sway me with "what monthly payment do you want to pay?" and it became unbearable. When the monthly payments seemed too high for my credit score and such, I was less willing to bother. And the fact that it was my first time negotiating for a car was pressuring. So I asked them for a copy of their offer and I left.
Before I walked away, they try to sell me a '04 6s (with Moonroof and Bose) for $21,618 OTD. Again, not bad, but I just wasn't comfortable doing it. Maybe for all the waiting I've been doing, I'm just not ready for a bigger car- yet. Were these good deals that I walked from?

It seems like an all right deal - one thing you may note, in certain areas the incentives are different. It lists $2,750 as the rebate, but in some areas if you finance through MAzda you can get another $1,000 back as well - you may check and see if that is available.....by the way, I am in the same position as you, but I have a jetta.
I am a bit upside down on my Jetta right now and want to trade it in, but the market is very soft for them right now so I am getting screwed if I bite the bullet.

Unless personal finances prohibit it, you'll nearly always make out better selling your trade privately. Of course, you have to be prepared to make double payments for a few months. Hopefully, the used car will sell faster, but you need to be prepared. I've been driving my new 04 6 wagon for 2 weeks, the used car (02 P5) is waiting for a new owner. I figure the first real cold snap will motivate some folks to upgrade their ride.
#845 of 2415 Bought a Mazda6 wagon yesterday

Drove out with a Mazda6 Wagon yesterday.
Bought if for 4500 below invoice. This includes the 500 Grad rebate and the 4000 cash to customer. For an out of the door price of 22500. I had driven the sedan, hatchback and the wagon. Decided on the wagon for all the extra room it has and still handles like a sedan. Tested a Honda Accord 4EX too. Great car, but I fell in love with the looks and the sporty handling of the mazda6. Hope the reliability will be close to a Honda or a Toyota.

Picked up my '04 Mazda6 wagon yesterday:
Bose audio package
Side airbags and side curtain airbags
Roof rack side rails
Price was $19375 after $4000 rebate.
#847 of 2415 My new silver 6 sedan
Nov 13, 2004 (6:55 pm)
I picked up my new 04 mazda 6s this week. Sport package, sport grill 5 speed. Bought at invoice minus the $3000 rebate or 18,500. They said they could not sell under invoice. But they gave me $1,000 over what my trade in was worth according to kelly blue book. So as far as I'm concerned it was only $17,500. I'm happy with the deal.
#848 of 2415 New '04 6s Wagon
Nov 15, 2004 (8:02 am)
Purchased an '04 pebble ash 6s wagon on Saturday at Maxon Mazda in Union, NJ. It included:
Side and Curtain Airbags
Compass/Auto Dim Mirror/Homelink
Door Edge Guards
Sticker was $28,760. Got it for $1,500 under invoice plus the $4,000 rebate from Mazda. Paid $20,683 (before Taxes/Title, etc.) and the salesman threw in the window etching for no charge. I'm real happy with the deal considering I was looking at a 4/5 year-old Audi A6 Avant, similarly equipped with 40K+ miles for about the same price.
Great price, great experience. Zoom-Zoom!
Keep in mind that this was through the Ford Partner Program which is usually priced at invoice.

Offered dealer 25,435 less 4,000 rebate (21,453)via internet. Dealer responded with 25,386, minus rebate for final price of 21,386. Had to add tax, title and license fee to above price. Great Neck Mazda in New York, pretty painless deal. I was at another dealer the week before, and was going to buy a lesser equipped 6, but the salesman kept insisting on dealing off the MSRP.

"Offered dealer 25,435 less 4,000 rebate (21,453)via internet. Dealer responded with 25,386, minus rebate for final price of 21,386."
So the dealer countered your offer with an offer for less money?

I just pasted the Edmunds info on the offer sheet, he should me his inovoice which was $49 less, and we made a deal. If I wanted to I could have possibly gone a little lower, but the guy was pretty upfront, about many things. I had been looking at several vehicles prior to this purchase. The majority of the salesperson tried to cut up deals in so many ways , and with so many excuses that this guy was a pleasure to deal with. Just so you know I am involevd in insurance and everyday I have to negoitiate deals with attorneys and judges. So the last thing I want to do is spend my time with car salespersons.
