Gila window tint a custom cut(pre-cut)window tint film for the M6. The standard auto tint film they sell at the auto stores (Autozone, Pep Boys) are not wide enough (about 2" short) for the M6s large area rear window. The residential window tint films a come in wider, but I was told not to use them because they may melt or cloud from rear defroster use over time. Automotive tints have an additional heat resistant film. Gila wanted to know what state I live in so that they can quote which windows are allowed tinting and % light transmission. I will order from them when I get a reply back from them probably tomorrow. The state I live in allows all window coverage |

| how do the price of their kits compare to having it done at a local shop? | |

| I was going to order these items for my 6s base model. Are they easy to install. Or do they require professional installation? I assume not, but wanted to make sure. Thanks | |
| maltb: I just placed my order with Amy (helpful and friendly) at Gila Tints for the M6 custom cut tint film today. The complete kit cost $84.30 that includes shipping (will receive via Fed-ex this Friday), their best (ultra-shield, scratch barrier, 99.4% UV block) tint film that covers all 4 side windows and the rear window and the installation tools. Auto parts stores sell the Gila ultra-shield film for around $15/box (takes maybe 3-4 boxes). And you have to purchase the install kit separately ($8?)and cut the film to size. Also the boxed film is not wide enough for the rear window. I think the typical/average shop charge is around $30-40 a window. My sister-in-law had her '97 Maxima tinted by a shop, but it started to bubble terribly after 2 years. Probably had an inexperienced person doing it. I have a '92 Mazda B2600 Cab+ that I put tints myself that year ('92) and its still bubble-free as well as my '99 Isuzu Rodeo. To get the best results,if you do it yourself, is to take your time and wet the film frequently as you squeegie the bubbles out. I'll take pics when I hopefully finish this weekend. | |
| Hye just wondering what everyone thought about the bose systeme in the 6s. | |
| buddy_2: Check out my input on the M6 Bose system on the Mazda6(Sedan Board) post #8597. | |
Anyone plan to install an aftermarket HID Xenon plug & play conversion kit ($550)? I looked to see how the projector beam headlight bulbs can be replaced. Man, did Mazda cram the 3.0 l and components into the engine compartment. There's a 2.5" dia cover behind the lamp housing that twists off to expose the back of the bulb and plug harness, but man is it tight trying to remove those covers. I got them off, but be careful not to drop it behind lamp housing compartment or you may never see it again. Anyway, that will be my next project on the 6 after I install the tints.

www.liteswap.com has instructions for HID lights on the Mazda6. Of course, they sell kits too |
|
| stretchsje: Thanks for the HID site. Here's another one of many out their: www.headlights-hid.com who mainly sell Phillips & Sylvania products. Do you have any future plans of doing a HID conversion? Sylvania makes the Silverstar that has the sealed Xenon gas that is brighter and whiter than halogen. Not a true HID due it having a filament and uses the standard power requirements. I may use these to replace the fog light bulbs. | |
