#827 of 1963 Magnum Police pkg ...SXT with 5 speed?
Nov 08, 2004 (5:06 pm)
I've been waiting for a V6 SXT with the 5 speed transmission, larger disk brakes, and heavy duty suspension. This web article on 2006 Magnum police package mentions this combination. Might hint that the commercial 2006 SXT could come with the 5 spd auto.
2006 Dodge Magnum Police Package
The 2006 Dodge Magnum will be available with a police package in the fourth quarter of 2005.
The standard 3.5-liter High Output V-6 engine featured on the 2006 Dodge Magnum police package vehicle delivers 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft. of torque for great police performance.
A five-speed fully electronic transmission with steering column shifter, 18-inch V-rated tires and steel wheels, heavy-duty police brakes and linings and heavy-duty suspension will be included as standard equipment with the police package models.
For the ultimate in pursuit power, the Dodge Magnum police package also
will offer an optional 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with cylinder deactivation that produces 340 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Chrysler Group's Multiple Displacement System (MDS) seamlessly alternates between smooth, high fuel economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. Fuel efficiency is improved by up to 20 percent with cylinder deactivation, but not at the expense of performance.
The HEMI powertrain, mated to a fully electronic five-speed automatic transmission and high-performance suspension, will give officers in pursuit situations a balance of world-class performance, power and handling.
The 2006 Dodge Magnum police package will include the following specific package items: certified speedometer, column shifter, emergency rear door lock override, heavy-duty five-link suspension system, heavy-duty alternator, heavy-duty battery, heavy-duty brakes, inoperable rear door locks and rear windows, and special police electrical wiring.
Optional equipment includes: daytime running lamps, dual spot lamp, police-type heavy-duty front seats with manual lumbar adjustment and full-size spare tire.
The 2006 Dodge Magnum police package will begin production in the fourth quarter of 2005. Pricing will be announced at that time.
#828 of 1963 consumer reports comments

Highs: rear seat room
Lows: visibility, braking, turning circle, modest cargo area.
DamCrysler's choice of tires appears to have hurt the handling and braking performance.

What did the reports say about the RT? How many comments were there on the lows. I am sure there were a lot more highs. I have to disagree about the cargo since it is a wagon. I have driven one and backed it up to park it straight. The size of the wagon will make you steer bigger than you should with the vehicle. The visibility is questionable but adjustable with the rear view mirrors. What version sxt was it? You know there are different equipped ones. I am not sure about the tires. The tires could have just needed some air. They may have had too much air. Was this an awd sxt or a rwd sxt? Consumer reports can be vague at times.
#830 of 1963 Outward visibility

This has long been a peeve of mine, especially with new wagons and crossovers. I think back to my dad's 1984 Pontiac 6000 wagon, and there was not a single point you couldn't see. The pillars were narrow, the windows full height. When I look at the Magnum, I see a dramatic downslope from already low side windows, and it's no surprise that visibility is a complaint. Chrysler claimed the greenhouse of the 300/Magnum/Charger was based on focus groups that said they felt more "secure" with the smaller windows... if any of those respondents actually bought one of these cars, I'd like to know how they feel about parallel parking.

#832 of 1963 Re:Need information about new Magnum choice SRT-8
Nov 14, 2004 (3:46 am)
I just read an artical in November issue of a top automobile magazine about Dodges' latest Magnum. They have tagged this big bad boy as the Magnum SRT-8.we're talk'in 425 H.P.,Brembo brake package, and 20" wheels. They even hade a spy cam picture with those big daddy donuts wear,in canvas cover-ups. That and a change in the style of the front bumper are all that was mentioned. They gave no time frame when this baby will start tearing up the asphalt.I,ve had an RT ordered since Sept.3rd and if i don't see it in my driveway soon,i'll cancel and wait for his big brother.I can,t be the only guy on the planet that has any info on this monsterwagon.Anybody out there with their ear to the ground?I need more information FAST.I stopped by a rural dealership in northern CA.and talked with a sales manager. He did't have a clue,it's the end of harvest season up there a he seemed a little confused.Any info will be greatly appreaciated.Thanks.

#835 of 1963 Dodge extended warranty?
Nov 15, 2004 (9:07 am)
I found a way to order a Dodge Magnum RT at $1300 less than invoice, but I was wondering about extending the new car warranty. Dodge has a lousy 3-year warranty, but does anyone know how much they charge to extend this warranty to 5 or 6 total years?
#836 of 1963 Warranty

Dodge has a standard 7/70 powertrain life time
warranty. Do not know how good it is, How did you get $1300 under invoice?
