I've put 23,000 miles on my 06'Si and haven't even had to take it in for scheduled maintenance yet- the car tells you when maintenance is due and it hasn't spoken up yet. I use synthetic oil, and have replaced that every 10,000 miles and the filter every 5000, that's all. The car has performed perfectly and is very cheap to own. I AVERAGE 29MPG in it and it does get more responsive(aka faster) after about 15000 miles. I've even taken it past redline several times... I'm not exactly sure it that's what abuse is-
I'd recommend the honda over the mazdaspeed any day. Unless you like to pay for the gas and the engine that isn't proven- supercharged engines usually don't last. (Although a Mazdaspeed3 will beat you every time off the line - but then you don't abuse your car so you won't care...)
just FYI - no paint problems or problems of any kind - it still looks as good as the day I bought it, and I live in Ohio!

About mileage, I recently made a ~1500 mile trip in my new Si, and I actually got really high mileage... unusually high, actually... i got over 37 mpg 3 times, and am averaging about 29mpg overall. In general, I'd say I'm getting about 26 in the city, around 33 or higher on the highways.

only taken to redline a few times with 23k miles? Si's are made for high revs, you wont be doing any damage at all. You can take the Si up to 8500 without doing damage. I wouldnt suggest doing it everyday or anything, but the Si loves the high revs you need to get around 9,000-10,000 rpms to do some bad damage, which is why they put the fuel cutoff at 8500.
Also, i definitely wouldnt buy the mazdaspeed 3, ive test driven it a couple times, it isnt nearly as fun to drive, and i think its one of the ugliest cars on the road. i dont even think ive seen one on the road here. They would have actually sold them if they put that turbo 260hp engine in the mmazda 3 sedan, not that ugly twinkie hatch. the interior is so dull, and shifting is a pain compared to how fun the Si is. I didnt get to try the leather interior one, but the cloth plastic one is terrible, the seats feel like cardboard. I absolutely love the seats in the Si, it was as if they built them specifically for me.

Hey i just put mobile 1 5w30 full synthetic in my 2007 civic Si. now when i shift from like first to second or second to third at like 3,500-4000 rpms it seems like the throttle doesnt respond as well. Its like when i hit the gas seems like theres a small delay. does the temperature outside have something to do with it? its like 85-90 outside.

It can. it depends on how you have your brightness settings done up, it's those buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Myself, i just keep it bright the entire time, but it can get dimmer if you set it to.

Hey I was wondering when you all did your first oil change on your Si. I just hit 3000 miles tonight, and the 'Maintenance Minder' still says 60% oil life. Standard? I'm just not sure how often most cars actually need to get the oil changed. Thanks, all.

this doesn't sound right...even if you babied your car, i still think that at least by 10k, the service meter would have come on.

When my rear hatch lock broke they ended up denting the rear of the hatch and then trying to pass it by me(They used touch-up paint and a bad job of doing it). So i left it there and sure enough when i went back yesterday to pick it up. They screwed up the paint job. This is my first and probably last Honda. O ya i have a 05 Si also.

Why would you write off Honda just because of one dealer's actions? It isn't like Honda did that to your car.
