Yes!! I have the same noise. I have had several problems with my 2004 SI and I don't even have 12,000 miles yet. Had probs every since I got it practically. Anyway, about the noise, I took it into the dealer and they replaced the front struts. The noise that time was more of a clunking when I turned the wheel though. A couple months later the current noise you describe started. This time I took it to my old mechanic who told me it was definitely the suspension. I had to take it for the weekend so he tightend things up for me - which made the sound better - and he took it into a dealer he was friends with on Monday. Not sure what took place but when I picked it up from him, he told me the dealer said the noise was normal. honestly, I don't think the dealer mechanic heard the noise since it was tightened. so, Now a few months later (and noisier) I'm taking it into yet another dealer tomorrow to put my foot down.

I know you posted over a year ago... but I'm still dealing with this noise you described. Got my front struts replace this past June - same sorta noise but more of a clunking. It was fine a couple months now it's doing this grating sorta noise as described by someone else on the site. Same deal - it doesn it when parking and even just turning the steering column. I'm taking it in again tomorrow. Just wondering if you got yours fixed?

I had to have the clutch master cylindar replaced in mine. I went in every other month to the dealer to get it oiled. They kept telling me each time that they were using better oil and I wouldn't be back. I finally took it into my old mechanic and he replaced the cylindar in one day. Problem solved! After ONE YEAR of dealing with the clutch! I'm still dealing with the suspension though. Dealer replaced the struts this summer. That lasted a couple months and now the coffin noise is back. Acutally it was more of a clunking before. Now, it's the coffin creak and it's loud. I'm taking it in tomorrow to a different dealer. i'm so tired of dealing with this car!

Cam Shafts Falling Appart by lotophagi

Okay guys I have a great one for ya. I bought this car 28 months ago and for the first year it ran fine. After that I started to have some issues with the car. First the tires went and I replaced those. Then the Breaks went and I replaced those. Around the point of 18,000 miles there started a clicking noise in the engine. Well no one could hear it of course and Honda said it was normal. Well now I am driving down the highway and the car jerks and stops. Mind you I have changed the oil every 3,000 and had all applicable maintenance done to this car other then that. Well after my mechanic looks at the car for about 4 hours he tells me that 2 of the cam shafts are wearing and falling apart and that one of the cam shaft keepers is trashed. Along with that when this happened it bent something to do with my pistons.

I am hoping that someone out there might be having similar problems. Seeing a this should never happen to a new car and I know I did not cause this damage, I am hoping to get the car replaced because of faulty manufacturing.

Please let me know if you are having any issue like this and what your opinion is.

Redvibe, i'm with you on this... or maybe it's not the same sound... well, you tell me...
My problems have been a couple. I had this horrible sound coming from the clutch, like something needed to be lubed. This noise in mid 2003. Then at the same time this short creak/click noise will come from the steering column when applying a lot of torque to the front wheels (if the car is loaded with somewhat heavy items, or 4 adults in the car, or let's say racing). I have taken the car to the dealer since mid 2003 (i purchased it in june 2002). About the clutch, same thing than yours, just lubrication. About the other noise, dealer coulnd't find it. When my warranty was about to expire (last june) i took it to the dealer again, and they couldn't find it. So they noted on my file that i have taken the car some 5 or 6 times and they just don't hear the noise i complain about. So last month i took it in once again, until the mechanic in charge of the dealer went for a ride with ME riding, and he finally heard the noise. I took it in, and after one week i got my car back. They changed the struts (both) engine mounts, and clutch cilinder.
The clutch now works like a charm. no problems at all. but the creaking noise it was still there.
To be more precise on describing the noise, like i said it started at the steering wheel with a tiny vibration when riding it rough, and then it got louder and you can tell that it comes from somewhere in the front.
Next week ki'm taking it again and we'll see what is all about...

I'm a new '00 Si owner & interested in learning as much as possible regarding the "care & feeding" of my new "baby." From your reply it appears you have experience & knowledge on this model. Would you have any general advice or recommendations for a new owner to help maintain my Si (engine ect.) in "excellent" shape?
Thanks in advance !

ps. I have a used Grand Cherokee in my future. Any recommendations on best model year ?

regarding #2.

Though i don't have the 'coffin creak' problem, I have some clunking on my '03 Si. The clunk sound tends to occur when driving over potholes or otherwise bumpy roads. I am curious to know exactly what it is that was tightened if you know. I want to try to tighten it before I try to get struts replaced out of warranty.

Satisfied, but can't stand the clunk...

Malfunction Indicator Light 2006 Si by stork4

I just installed a K&N air filter. I removed the air box, disconnected the electrical connector to the air box, removed the air hose, installed the panel air filter, re-assembled, noticed when I started the Si the Malfunction Lamp was on steady. Wasn't on before. Went back and installed the stock air filter checked the pins of the molex connector. Lamp still on. Re-installed K&N checked the connector pins, checked my work, lamp still on. Took a spin, got fuel, secured gas cap 3+ clicks, lamp still on. Anybody have a solution to my problem with the Malfunction Lamp?
