#8563 of 12327 NEW CRV EX AWD

First, thanks to everyone on this forum for their posts, advice, and general feedback. I just purchased a new CRV EX AWD in the bay area, CA, and being informed really improved the experience!
Price breakdown:
Negotiated Price (incl. dest): $22,175
Document Fees: $55
Tax (9.5%): $2,112
License & Registration: $240
Total: $24,582
I feel really good about the price. Based on posts here, I think I could have gotten another $175, but CA registration fees go up this week by ~$200, so not worth it. (btw, the $55 doc fee is set by the state of CA.) We did not do a full internet email barter. Rather, we started with a reputable dealer in the area, referred by a colleague, and dealt with their internet sales. Initially we were looking at a used CRV, but their "fair value price" was $2000 higher than the vehicle was worth. Of course they offered to take $1000-off, but that was still out of the ballpark (and I was stuck in a horse trade at that point). So, we said we weren't interested, however we did like the newer model better and wanted to see their best price on a new EX AWD. They quoted us $22,583 (+Doc/TTL). Did the whole thing where they showed us the Honda invoice sheet, and the $500 rebate. Said they were only making $300 and not willing to negotiate from there. We then took that quote to another dealer, who is known for being the best price in the area, picked a vehicle on their lot, and said "what's the best you can do on this car?" They eventually came down another $400. btw, for those of you unaware, Honda gives additional incentives based on dealer volume, so "invoice minus rebate" is not the true cost at a larger dealer. Plus cost of capital translates to ~$50 per month in holding costs, and risk of inventory obsolesence is still a problem this year. All pieces of ammo for you to use in your bartering.
I'm inclined not to post dealer names on this forum, but if you send me a private message, I would happily give a referral to either. They were both reasonable if you come armed with the right information.
and color was urban titanium w/ black interior. ultimately, my 2nd choice, and my wife's 3rd choice, so good enough to do business.

thought the community would appreciate this. about two weeks ago, i scanned this forum going back to Jan 1 for the best prices paid on any given trim of CRV. below is the quick excel table i built. this is by no means an exact science, and I discarded some data points that were unclear (e.g. unsure if dest. fee was included, etc.). the table was built for CA tax + fees, but base price was best posted nationally. if helpful, feel free to comment, update, and use as a resource.
Model: CR-V CR-V CR-V CR-V CR-V CR-V
Trim: LX LX EX EX EX-L EX-L
Drive: 2WD 4WD 2WD 4WD 2WD 4WD
Base price
+ any fees: 18,870 20,340 21,100 22,000 23,149 24,202
Doc. Fees: 55 55 55 55 55 55
Tax (9.5%): 1,798 1,938 2,010 2,095 2,204 2,304
DMV Fees: 240 240 240 240 240 240
OTD: 20,963 22,573 23,405 24,390 25,648 26,801
Tax Rate: 9.50%
btw, best prices for used vehicles were $1500-2000 less per year for the first 5 years, assuming ~12K miles per year. of course this varies tremendously based on actual vehicle condition, year/mileage, and trim/options. but, you should be able to buy through a dealer for about half way between Kelly Blue Book "trade-in value" and "private party value" (or less).

I bought my CRV EXL AWD-transaction done over the internet. Had to drive 5 hours but was prepared to turn around and go home if it was a bait and switch. Much to my surprise it was more than I expected. It was fully loaded-pin strped, sun/moon roof w/visor, spoiler, Blue tooth installed, upgraded rims, navi, premium sound...basically every upgrade you could put on the car. The sales rep did say "I have to tell you something..I hope this isn't a deal killer"...oh #
1P says me.
He took me to the car and the problem was it had an ivory/tan leather interior-instead of black. Exactly what the wife wanted! Traded an '07 Odessy for 23K, good deal. Out the door price of $24,749. It was off lease w/1207 miles on it. Carfax certified-nothing funky. The guy who ordered it loaded it since it was a company lease and it was not big enough so he turned it in for something bigger.
I was a happy camper driving back home for the next 5 hrs cranking the stereo and trying to figure out all the cool stuff that came with it. Was able to get the voice recognition featue to work without wrecking-I think I made out good. I have the only CRV EXL AWD Urban Titanium CRV like it in all of GA.

The dealer was actually an Infiniti dealer in NC-Lake Norman Infiniti-it was a flukey deal but scouring the internet works! I couldn't find an AWD in the entire Southeast reigion through the Honda dealership network. Good luck!

I can't seem to find a way to PM other users.
if you can send me an e-mail with the dealers name that would be great
can you e-mail it to minscho3
hotmail.com please?
thank you in advance.
BTW, I am planning on purchasing Taffeta White 4WD EX-L and have been quoted barely under 25k plus tax, doc fee etc.
does this seem reasonable?
I have contacted many dealers and this is every dealer quote was around 25,300.
Thank you for any inputs in advance.

You are doing better by $500, than anything I could do here in NC and southern VA.

Thanks for your detailed information. I calculated and you beat my BEST price (have prices from seven dealers) by over $1987. I made adjustments for the differences in sales tax. I live in NC, I may make a trip to MD. The MD price would be $22,479+674 (3% sales tax)+100 doc fees+ DMV title/ tag for a total of $23,327.
BEST PRICE in NC/ Southern VA was $23,999+ 395 doc fees, taxes title and tag for OTD $25,314

Were you able to get this vehicle for the price they quoted you? If so, can you tell me the salesman you dealt with? Thanks.
