I am from the Minneapolis area and I sure recognize that attitude! Several, and one in particular, dealers were very holier than thou, and spent all their effort saying that the online information was all wrong, you couldn't get that price, yada yada yada. We were told we were stupid, unethical, naive and many other things, just for asking. This seems to be the way the dealers around here are trying to compensate for the large increase in informed buyers that the internet has created. They blame and shame the customer. In the short term, in does quickly weed out the folks that won't pay their high prices and lets them concentrate on the less informed customers, but in the long run they are going to get a bad reputation around town and suffer greatly. I know we will tell anyone who will listen which dealers were decent, and which ones weren't. When we found a good dealer, we were able to get a good deal on a 2009, over the phone, in less than 30 minutes. Very interesting since the other dealer told us we were "stupid and naive" to think that anyone would sell for that price, and that if they told us they would, it was bait and switch. Buyer beware, if they treat you with lack of respect, you can bet their ethics and honosty are also as poor as their manner.

There are good deals to be had and I dont begrudge anyone on trying to make a good deal! I am a consumer too and do the same thing. But, just because someone bought a CR-V from Boch in Boston doesn't for $X doesn't mean that same deal can be had here in Minneapolis. However, what I should have said is that even though you got a certain deal that doesn't mean the next guy that inquires over the internet at the same dealership will get the same deal. The reason is perhaps at the end of last month and even in to this month, as the 2009's began to arrive some dealerships may have had a glut of 2008's left, so in order to move them, they decided to blow out as many as they could. Once they were down to the last few they may control pricing a little better. There are pockets in this country where there is limited competition and low supply. While this board is an excellent guide, there is alot of oneupmanship here which may set an unrealistic standard of pricing that may not be attainable in certain markets. For example, it seems people are getting really aggressive quotes out of Chicagoland right now because of an incentive available to dealers in that market that is not available here in Minneapolis. My dealership has the 2008 CR-V EXL 4WD priced at $25057.00 which is $600.00 UNDER our adjusted invoice (with co-op which is a legitimate cost added at the factory, not dealership level) and some people have been getting quotes $400.00 less then that. Keep in mind, there is no co-op advertising in Chicago. We simply can not compete with that price and as our supply dwindles, price will go back up. The whole point is don't disapoint someone if they can't get the same deal you did. Keep in mind, USED ones are selling for more then most people can buy a new on for. So if someone has to pay a few hundred more then you did, dont just automaticly assume that they can get a far better deal - it just may not be attainable in their neck of the woods. IMHO if you can get an 08 for invoice or a couple hundred back, that is still an awesome deal! After all, it's a Honda CR-V, not a Hyundai Santa Fe. So mcquinn, if I came off harsh, my apologies. |

Furthermore, if you consider that the vehicle that started this conversation was a standard CR-V 4WD EX, and the cost difference between the L trim level and the standard trim level is about $2,364, that would put the standard EX price at about $22,700, which still makes the $23, 093 price high by almost $400. As I stated before, if it's for a color that is in short supply, it might be worth it--only the buyer can make that decision. I rest my case.

I am hoping to buy a 2008 EX with 2WD in the San Francisco Bay Area this week. I have asked for internet quotes from three dealers, but only one has responded. This one (Oakland) is offering the car at $21,900. This seems an okay price and is about $150 lower than Costco. But I wonder whether I can do better? Any input would be much appreciated. Went to Boch Honda in Norwood Mass. on friday the 12th I received the advertised sale price for the CRV EX 4x4 $21588 +$670 destination charge plus tax and tags=$23593. I was waited on immediately. There was no pressure at all. I was not pressured into taking any extras including extended warranties. I was there for a total of 2 hours. They are delivering the car to me on Wednesday the 17th free of charge. Thank you CRVhappy. I would never have known about this dealer if it wasn't for your post.
