Iowa, in the middle of the model year, the $26,650 price you're being quoted would still be at least $$650 high. Now, it's ridiculously high, by at least $1,600 or more. An '08 AWD EX-L is just not worth that at this time, even with the preferred financing. The financing does make a difference though, and can be about a $1000 savings over the course of a loan when compared to market rates. So that should be taken into consideration at some point in negotiations..

2008 Honda CRV EX AWD by bpraxis

Hello everyone and I hope that you are having a very nice day.

We are interested in purchasing a new 08 Honda CRV EX AWD now.

There are two dealers in our city and their inventory appears to be not moving over the last month. One dealer has 29 CRVs and the other has 12.

The best offer so far is $23,300.00 which means we should probably wait till the end of the month for the 2009 CRVS? The internet manager tells me that his cost on the unit is approximately $23,100.00. My offer was $22,500.00.

The offer does not seem worth eating a year of depreciation. We have to consider the price increase for 09 also which we have not seen. My feel for the market is that the local economy is struggling and Honda may have to offer more of an incentive to move these cars.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to this board, I just took home a CR-V EX-L w/navi for 26,400+ TTL. I tried to go 200 lower without success. I shopped another dealer in the area and the best they could give me was 400 over dealers invoice (costco discount). Castle Honda in Morton Grove, Illinois sold me the car. A young Asian guy there was the best salesman-no pressure.

mquillen, i shopped 7 different dealers that were willing to give me written quotes online, and then i talked with three of them and narrowed it down to one that i felt i could work with. really liked the guy! i'm very happy. there seem to be plenty of crvs in this area, but not too many in green tea which i ended up liking more than the glacier blue. i paid the price because that was the best i could do around here and i worked hard! but like i said, i'm very happy can't believe the thing is sitting in my driveway right now!

and there were no 09's on the lot that i know of.. i haven't seen any 09's but i haven't really been looking for them. i bought from the highest volume seller and loved the customer service, and we qualified for the 3.9apr.

thanks so much for your help!

edited to add: the dealer also works with costco and i got "the costco" price. so that's cool, but i wish i had thought about that before because i worked hard for that price.... and i'm a costco member. live and learn.

You may want to ask your question in the Importing Car into Canada from US discussion.

Sidsid, you got an OK deal, especially for the hard to find color that you wanted. It is almost always worth paying a little more to get exactly what you want. Some pay a little more, some a little less. The information here is just that, information. You use it to get as close to a fair price as you can reasonably get. Then you have to pull the trigger and be happy with your choice-- I'm sure you will be.

Acurafan, great price, especially if you got the preferred financing on top of that. That's about $200 over the dealer cost, inclusive of holdback.

Bpraxis, the internet manager seems to be quoting his invoice as dealer cost, which might be the case if he's been sitting on his vehicles very long, as his floorplan financing eats into dealer holdback. Sorry about his luck if that's the case.

Many "internet managers" are given prices they can quote, and they are seldom the lowest price available. Sometimes you have to go around them. One thing that does have to be taken into consideration at this time is whether or not you'll be taking advantage of the preferred financing. The 1.9% for 24-36 mos, or the 3.9% for 36-60 mos. can be a savings of over $1000 compared to market rates. I'd still be hard pressed to pay much more than $22,800 for the model year old vehicle, unless it's for a color that is in short supply.

As a dealer in Minnesota I get this question several times a year. American Honda will not allow border states to sell new Honda vehicles to Canadian customers. I highly doubt a dealer would risk losing their dealer agreement with Honda to sell one additional car. Besides, why would you want a brand-new car that does not come with a warranty, as the warranty for cars built for American consumption is VOID in Canada.

Here in Minneapolis we have found a way around this by buying current year factory demos from Honda. These cars have about 6,000 miles on them and are considered used cars. Honda has no specific rule in place about selling used Honda's to Canadians. Since you'll be importing the car to Canada, the warranty will be VOIDED, but most dealers will have an after-market warranty available that is valid in Canada.
