A Unique question for honda leasing... by hondalicious

Dear knowledged members of the forum,

I'm from downtown Boston, MA and am in need of some real guidance: I'm about to pull the trigger on a lease for a 2009 Honda CR-V EX-L. The (somewhat challenging and complicated) facts:

My current situation:

~ 2006 Honda Civic EX w/Navi (top trim line at the time). Zero down, $309/month all inclusive. 48mo/12K mile lease. Out of warranty now.
~Buyout was $10,000 at lease end
~ currently have 38,200 miles on it with 18 months left in my lease, so i'm over my mileage limit projection.
~have about $1000 of bumper damage (hit a concrete pillar while parking, not reported to insurance yet as it would knock $500 out of my pocket for a deductible, and slam my premiums up about $300 a year for 5 years, as I am currently a perfect step 9 driver: total sunk cost of $2000 over 5 years).

My offered situation:

~ the new 2009 Honda CR-V EX-L in Taffeta White, 36 month lease/15K miles.
~ $330/month, $350 due at signing. all taxes, fees, doc, dest, plates rolled in.
~ Immediate buyout of my current lease, no reporting the damage to insurance (they'd fix it themselves).

YES, I know that you can't judge a good deal based on monthlies (shame on me for dealing in that way!), which is why i come to you all for advice. i've been trying to reverse calculate the OTD price using the great lease calculators on Edmunds and provided by you great folks, and would like to know if any of you (especially Car_man, who seems to be an authority in this department) know the September 2009 CR-V EX-L money factor and residual and invoice price? Or can someone help me figure out if this deal looks good?

am i parting with my leased civic for too little, or should i just pull the trigger and walk away with a new car with more miles allowance? the way i feel, my "trade" leverage is limited because of the damage on my car... but i also would be happy with a solid deal. Bottom line: am I getting a good deal?

Any help would be really, really great.

The lease deal on the new one would be good, even without getting out of your current Civic lease.. (assuming this is AWD model?)

They must be thinking they can make money on your Civic.. but, if they can, more power to them... You aren't going to be able to do that... Be glad you are getting out of the lease...

Two things to look out for: Make sure they are buying your Civic, and paying off the lease.. And.. make sure your new lease is through Honda Finance..

regards,
kyfdx

Yes, sorry i forgot to mention it: 2009 CR-V EX-L 4WD. The new lease deal isn't too bad then? Thought $330/mo was a bit high, but the bump up to 15K miles in combination with the decrease in lease terms (down to 36 months from my 48 month Civic lease) seemed too sweet to pass up... been with the dealership for about 5 years now (two Civics: best cars ever), so i'm almost inclined to believe that they actually care about keeping me as a customer... almost.

I currently lease through AHFC... and the new CR-V will be the same AHFC. Thank you so much kydfx for the reply (and peace of mind, despite me breaking the cardinal rule when bargaining for leases). I'll be sure to keep an eye on the paperwork to ensure they're buying out my lease and not pulling the funny business.

One more question: do I still need to know the money factor/resid/invoice of the 2009 to solidify this deal and pull the trigger? Or should I sign before they change something on me?

It's always good to know the selling price, money factor and residual of the car you are leasing...

But, in the end, you are renting the car by the month.. All things being equal (term, mileage allowance, money due at signing), then the most important number is the payment!!

I'm sure used Civics are valuable... But, your Civic has $1000 of damage and you are going over your allotted mileage. The dealer may make money on the vehicle, but I doubt you could. Not only that, your car is now out of warranty. That's a $28K vehicle.. A lease payment of $330/mo. for 3yr/45K including tax is a great deal. CR-Vs aren't famous for having good lease deals, and this is one of the best I've seen..

I don't know the current MF/residuals for the CRV, but I know there aren't any screaming lease deals, or we would see posts everywhere about them..

Be glad to get rid of that Civic, and be happy that you've locked in a decent payment for the next three years on a pretty nice car!!

regards,
kyfdx

With all due respect, I used to be a purchasing manager for Honda of America Mfg., so I DO get it. I know how Honda negotiates their parts pricing as well as their raw materials. I also understand Honda's year over year "cost down" goals. When you consider Honda's considerably lower amortization costs (because of their volumes), and their purchasing strength in the industry, I assure you, they are taking advantage of their market position. Of course you're entitled to your opinion.

Honda CR-V LX AWD by thompsonhkay

Planning on Purchasing this vehicle this week.

Ask for OTD Pricing from dealer with roofrack option, this was what I was quoted:

21,196 Sale Prices
119 Service Fee
1,193.64 WI Taxes
93.00 State transfer fees

Total 22,601.64

I want to make sure I am educated on pricing when going in to discuss.
Any feedback on whether this is in range with fair pricing? How much better can I do?

Thanks!!!

The roof rack is bolt-on and is easily installed in less than an hour. It can be had on-line for about $200, which would put reasonable installed retail at about $280 - $300 max. An '08 LX AWD can be purchased in many regions at close to dealer net/net cost, or about 20,400. That would put your vehicle price including the rack at about $20,700. Some people have done better than this price. If you can get the color you want within a couple hundred of this price (including the "Service Fee") I'd consider that a good deal at this point in time.

Either find another dealer or go get a 2008 RDX Nav for a little over $30k plus taxes. You'll still be getting a Honda, and saving some money. That price is wayyyyy too much. If you're planning to spend that much money, premium gas shouldn't be an issue.

With all due respect, I used to be a teenager, that dosen't make me a Jonas Brothers expert.
