The title was misleading in my earlier post - I have changed it now. We did pick up the CRV with a Nav. It is quite possible that it was not the absolute best deal but for that itself I had to undergo a lot of negotiation and wait time, and the dealer reaction made me think that I was not far away from their least price.

We just signed the papers on a 2008 CRV LX 2WD and wanted to share my price with everyone for comparison. After a bit of haggling, we got the dealer's lowest out-the-door price of $21,900 and went home to think about it. I called later and asked if they could do it for $21,600 OTD and include window tinting, cargo tray, and retractable cargo cover (which are the only accessories I cared about). They agreed so we went back and gave them a check.

Comparing prices is near impossible when they want to add on various taxes and fees. That's why we went in with an OTD price in mind. Here are the numbers on my contract:

sale price $19,485.63
"customer services" $499 (amount already pre-printed on the contract)
total including tax, license, registration $21,600

The invoice price with destination fee was $19,927 so (with the customer service fee added) we paid about $60 over invoice and got around $600 in accessories included. The best thing is that I chose what I really wanted rather than getting some random mud guards and pin stripes added by the dealer. Sure it makes you feel better when they add in a bunch of stuff, but if it isn't something that you'd pay to add for yourself then it's hard to quantify the actual value. Who really needs wheel locks on the LX wheels anyway?

I'm not sure we were compensated for the fact that it is an end-of-season '08, but I plan on keeping it for a while so that's probably OK. I had to go with the black interior instead of the gray that I prefer, but I got my first choice exterior paint (royal blue).

Nancyh2, that's a good attitude to have. There will always be pricing higher and lower somewhere--enjoy your car. You didn't state where you are located so it's difficult to say what a reasonable price is. One thing for buyers to consider, however, is that they shouldn' t accept fees and charges even if they are printed on the contract, unless they are certain those charges are customary in their area. That $499 "customer services fee" seems quite high and suspicisous, even if it includes the doc fees.

Honda CRV EX L info in central Texas by dschaeffer

Hi,
I live in Austin, TX and am interested to know about buying experience/lease info/price paid for 2008 Honda CRV EX L w/ NAV. I went to a dealer yesterday and was quoted a seemingly ridiculous price of almost $500/ month for a 36 month term incl a $1000 trade in.
Thanks for any info!

Hi Dschaeffer. I would highly recommend not even discussing payments. That's where they will get you everytime. Do your research, the MSRP on that vehicle is 27500 (I think). Like some of the previous posts did, tell the dealer what you are willing to spend. I live in DFW area and all of the dealers that I talked to could not negotiate much. They say it is a hot selling car right now and can't even keep the EXLs on the lot. I got the EXL w/Navi, for right under 29000. I can't remember exactly now, but it did have several add ons. Many we didn't want and a few we did.
Good luck.
