No, I do not think you are lying!!! All I am saying is that you are very quick to reply that they are not PROBLEMS and to anyone with that problem (and it seems the differential problem posters do have problems) it is worth posting to see if anyone else has similar problems. The best example of this would be the A/C compressor problem posts.
I have been reading and posting on Edmunds for several years and am a big fan of yours as to the advice and honesty of your posts. In fact, if I lived near your dealership I would have purchased my 2007 Honda CRV EXL from you, however; I live in Florida and NJ, so that was out of the question.
The Edmunds forums are very informative .... a lot of people that never post...DO POST when they have a problem (certainly a lot more than if they never have a problem).
I have to agree with you that of the thousands upon thousands of Hondas sold, most of them ar PROBLEM FREE!!!

I understand, and I hope you can understand how isolated problems tend to get over amplified in forums such as this.

Someone will have a problem and others will quickly chime in with thier "me too" tales of woe that cause many of us to jump to the conclusion that a major problem exists.

I never said problems don't happen. They do with ANY make and model and I never said the problems weren't real. I just said they represented a very small percentage of production.

When a manufacturer puts out technical service bulletins to fix a problem... it means a significant number of owners are having that problem.

Significant? If 2% of owners have a problem, that qualifies.

If we get 50 CarSpace members that have problems with their rear differential, then that is significant. If we get 100 or more that have their A/C compressors fail, that is significant. We are a very small part of the motoring universe. You can't just pull up our forums and start posting... you have to join. If that many people are complaining about a specific problem, you can bet that there is an issue.

Just because it hasn't happened or doesn't happen to your CR-V, has no statistical significance at all. As far as your service department? I don't believe they've ever had a problem with any Honda. At least it sure reads that way..

I'm a die-hard Honda fan.. I would recommend a CR-V without reservation.. But, they can have issues, just like any other car... And, if you see a discussion here on CarSpace dedicated to one particular problem, you can bet it's real. No one has the time to post about a problem they don't have. I'm betting against mass hysteria.

kyfdx

I see problems overblown in these forums all the time and not just limited to Hondas. In the case of the rear differental "problem" in the majority of cases, a simple and inexpensive fluid change solves the "problem".

I really didn't appreciate your post to me. I have always tried to be upfront and honest in everything I ever post.

The point is, it is a problem and the problem as you were so quick to dismiss is bigger than you believe it to be. Not only that, some people will not recognize the problem or know they have a problem. I don't know if the problem that is being disucussed will cause harm to the vehicle or not but if it can or does then IMO Honda should be notifying their customers about it. Furthermore, there are some dealerships that will potentially charge the customer for this issue when the customer should be getting the problem fixed for free. He didn't call you a dishonest he was pointing out some facts that you either did not consider or didn't know about.

A problem is a problem... No quotes needed..

If it requires a trip to the dealer, and an unscheduled service, then it's a defect... No matter how easily it is fixed. Not only that.. anything mechanical that is making an unwelcome noise, that is fixed with a fluid change... would make me nervous.

I don't doubt your sincerity, but down-playing someone else's problem is not what anyone needs to hear. These problems aren't "imaginary" (note the quotes).

Your honesty is not in question.... No one else's should be, either..

kyfdx

Maybe some of my reaction comes from having to deal with customers who come in and say..." I know CRV's are having serious problems with their A/C compressors" or.." I see on the internet that the rear differentials are very troublesome on CRV's"

The internet is a powerful tool but it is easy to jump to conclusions and assume minor problems are catastrophic or affect more than a very small percentage of the cars.

P.S. I'm the same guy who jumped in when Toyota (my main competition) was being blasted for their "sludge problems"...remember?

What's up with the '08 EX-L inventory? by nabors

I've been waiting for the '08 EX-L's without Navigation to arrive in Los Angeles. Been working with a few dealers and originally they said they were to receive them in late October, then November. Here we are approaching late November and still no sign of them in any quantity. One dealer told me it looked like they were getting ONE in a few weeks ago, I've e-mailed a few dealers recently and they haven't even responded to the question of when they might receive them.

What's the real story with the delay and when are they really scheduled to be available?

Thanks.

It's the same situation in Seattle and I have no idea when to expect them.

It's not like we've got a bunch of 2007 EXL's in stock because we don't!

isell,

Being a Honda employee, what are you hearing as the actual reason for the delay? Is it a parts issue? Why is it just the EX-L's?

I haven't been to many dealers in person recently, but I see a TON of ads in the LA Times Sunday paper for Honda dealers touting plenty of LX's. Why are the EX-L's in particular so delayed?
