I just worked a deal for a Silver/Gray LX 2wd from Dobbs Honda in Memphis. $19502.00 including base, destination charge, some paint and stain protection and mud flaps. They wanted $20100 plus $350 for the mud flaps and $249 for the paint protection, but they ate that price and offered a $200 return Honda buyer (we bought a Fit in June) and $1600 discount, which brought it to the $20100 I referred to. Then they just ate the rest to make the sale. I pick it up tomorrow and have to decide if cash is the best deal. No one would give me a solid interest rate without doing the whole interview at the dealer, so I just walked out when we were looking. Any suggestions? |

| I am looking to purchase a 2008 CR-V with Navigation system. Either 2WD or AWD. Can anyone recommend any good Honda dealers in the NY/NJ? What price should I be looking to paid? Thx in advance. | |

Just a few thoughts I thought I would share: The best price you can get in a any given area will vary from dealer to dealer every month. So, always shop around, don't let past experience with a dealer keep you from looking elsewhere. Two months ago I bought an 07 Civic from dealer A who had a lot in stock for a very good price and a few extras thrown in. Yesterday I bought a CR-V and that dealership could not give me a good price, but dealer B gave me a decent price on an 08. (I originally wanted to get an 07 for about 500 below invoice, but instead decided that for 400 more I would go for an 08 in the exact color I wanted and with less built-in depreciation I also have to stress the importance of getting quotes and doing most of the initial haggling over the Internet. It will save you time and a lot of hassle if you go in with a maximum price in writing and bargain down from there. If the Internet sales rep tells you that you need to come in to get a price better than the initial offer, forget it, don't bother. If possible, find out whether the Internet person is working on commission or for a flat rate plus bonuses. This will give you a better sense of what type of techniques and counteroffers will work best. Use the dealer's website to get a sense of their inventory for the model you want. This will often not be completely accurate, but in general a dealer with more in stock will have more incentive to sell. Before you begin face to face dealings, walk around and see what is on the dealer's lot. If every vehicle has dealer added options already installed and you don't want them, it may be better to go elsewhere. Pay no attention to the Edmunds TMV price. That is how much you can expect to pay if you walk in and say "gee, MSRP is high, can you do better?" If a vehicle is in dealer stock and there isn't a waiting list to buy it, you should expect to pay below "invoice." Think of TMV more as the "if you pay more you are a complete and utter fool" price. Keep in mind that any dealer added fees are taxable and hence part of the purchase price. The only reason to separate it is to make you think you paid less for the car. I paid 20949 + tax and title. Not a bad price, not an amazing one. |

| Went to a dealership today and they had this car for 27k. I asked for a better price and he said there wasn't a lower price. I think it's a pretty good deal but I thought I would hit you guys up for your thoughts.... | |

After sending out a bunch of emails, I think I've finished my search for an 08 EX-L AWD, no nav. The best offer I got from a local dealer was $26,000 including destination. That's about $500 over invoice according to Edmund's; not great, not terrible, which is more or less what I expected. Doc fee is $45 and various NY fees are about $180...plus taxes, of course
