Dealer Contract/Deposit ?

when you plop down a $500 deposit ( or similar ) for a specific model that the dealer is going to look for.....
1. should you put down a deposit if they are only going to "look" for the right car?
2. or, should you only put down a deposit on a specific car with a VIN#?
3. should you scribble on the contract a date by which the car needs to be delivered? or does this give the dealer an out, they only need to ride out the contract and they haven't lost anything.
4. does the deposit give the buyer any benefit or only the dealer?
thanks, j

Heritage Honda, Parkville, Md (just outside Baltimore), a 2007 Honda CR-V EX-Leather AWD....$25,137 and this includes the $595 destination charge!! Processing fee of $99....Maryland has a state law that limits this to $100, Virginia does not and the average processing fee in Virginia is $399. I live 250 miles away in Virginia and to save this kind of money is worth spending a day for me to drive up and back. I tried all the Virginia dealers and they were at least $1200 more than this price, some even told me if I can get the CRV at this price go for it. If you call, ask for the internet sales manager, he will give you a quote on the phone for any car, no games or I will call you back later or come on in and lets talk. Good Luck and let us all know your results.

wow, everyone here did well. We did not do as well. We got JUST under msrp and dealers within 100 miles of us were selling at msrp or greater, the deman for the newly remodeled 2007 CRV was so great. We came in at over $30K, but that's because husband had to have dual headrest dvd players with wireless headphones installed....lol...otherwise we would have fallen under $30K. anyway, we got the AWD EX-L with navi. So don't expect great prices right now on this re-designed dream. There are people coming in daily to buy them and mine even had to be brought in from another location!
Awesome! The car is a dream!

guess I wasn't helpful...we were about $500 under MSRP in Franlin, Tn which is closest to Nashville. Travelled about an hour to get this deal.

Bought the 2007 AWD Honda CRV EX-L with navi in Ohio for 28,000. Figured I could have gotten a few hundred or so more off but really did not want to play any games. In and out relatively quick and very happy with my purchase. I love the car.

CR-Vs are scarce here in Southern New Mexico too. But within 50 miles of us we found two dealers willing to take $1000 off MSRP of the LX. We chose the one that didn't add on any fees, ie Inventory fee, processing fee, etc.

$20,895 was the final price. I didn't have any options, just the basic LX FWD. Courtesy Honda did charge a $599 "dealer fee" and I got the same fee from2 other dealers and they wouldn't budge on this fee. There was not much of a selection in the Orlando area for a White LX.
