"I'm still waiting for my GB 4WD EX-L ($500 deposit) and I'm a bit concerned as it appears Honda inventory is pretty much open for grabs by any of the local dealers...I can see another dealer 'hijacking' more CRV's off the truck than they should be getting...and poof it is gone...I'm not believing until I see..."
Do you have any "evidence" that this is happening?? I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my GB EX-L (2WD only) next week & I've been contacted by another dealer promising that they'll have one in within a week and yet another dealer is claiming that they have the vehicle right now.
At this point, I'm waiting for the dealer that gave me the "best feeling", but sure would hate to find out next week that the car had been "hijacked" from them
PS - sorry to seem so vague on the details, but I'm waiting til I get the car to post the full, sad story of why I'm changing dealers. And you can be sure I'm looking forward to the call from Honda to rate my "shopping experience"!!

Reply to #4092 Southeastern Mass:
Have you contacted any dealers advertising in the Boston Globe? At least the base model LX 2WD is advertised by a couple dealers for less than $20K delivered (though fees and any "required" options, if any, are not stated)

No real evidence but from talking to several AZ dealers I know the Honda inventory 'system' works this way...all dealers can see all inventory coming in...I don't really know how the 'claim' process works but several have indicated they can 'see' what appears to be my car and get it but the dealer I am buying from says it is theirs...so I have to believe him I guess...I'm getting a tad concerned now because the car is slightly overdue based on what I was initially told...I'll give it another week or else we will need to buy something different.
On the positive side my dealer is keeping me up to date and sending me blurbs from his inventory sheet with VIN and dates...such as this:
SHP1218 1229 1231 0108-0112
Which I guess means it shipped from Japan on 12/18, was received in port (San Diego) on 12/29, was then ready for shipping to dealer on 12/31 and is due at the dealer between 1/8 and 1/12.
We shall see.

I had the same experience as your last weekend when I visited Metro Honda in Jersey City, NJ. This store is the worst!! Be advised, DON'T GO THERE!!!
The store is 100 miles from my place, called three times to confirm if the vehicle is still in the inventory lot. Emphasized that I was for the immediately purchase, will pay off with cash and drive away the vehicle upon my arrival. My last call was 30 minutes before I arrived the store at 10:30 AM and the internet manager said the car was still in the lot and please feel safe to come in.
Long story short, the sales person wouldn't check if the car still available when I was on site. Asking to present credit card or personal check to his manager to show I was a serious buyer, and he had to bring them to the manager office. Well, felt uncomfortable, refused to do so. 10 minutes later, manager finally showed up, said he has no vehicle I requested, has been sold out weeks ago. And won't have any for another 30 days. Walked out immediately.
Dishonest Store, wasted my time and driving expense. It's the Metro Honda in Jersey City, NJ. Never do business with them.

How much can I expect to pay below website/retail price of vehicle?

I am interested in possibly buying a 2007 Honda Cr-V EX-L. I have prices from the Canadian website:
EX-L base price = $34600
plus freight/pdi= 1505
Total= 36105
add options (based on canadian website prices):
tow pkg= 705
protection pkg= 311
Ipod base/attachment=400
side moulding=353
block heater=155
fog lights=600
Total with options= $38629
Taxes (14% in Ontario)=5408
Grand total out the door=$44037
My question is what should I consider a good deal? I have no trade-in and I have never bought a Honda before....Should I ask for money off the bottom line and/or free accessories or what is reasonably good offer to expect?
Buying domestic cars, one can usually expect about two thousand or more off the window sticker and perhaps more $$ with incentives but Honda does not appear to work this way....

Use the apa.ca web site. They have a car buying service in the major cities. They have a prearranged price with fleet managers at dealers. Also, I have read that some people have gotten up to 2400 off MSRP in Canada (source hondasuv.com).
For the accessories, those prices include installation. If you are a bit handy you can install the floor mats and side mouldings yourself. They are WAY cheaper to buy from on-line accessory stores in the US. Some of the stores in the US actually ship to Canada (collegehillshonda.com).
Hope the above answers your questions.

I don't know about other states, but I know California's Department of Consumer Affairs have auto regulations that dealers need to comply with. Check out your state's auto laws. I know with California, a dealer is not supposed to charge above the advertised price, I believe this is the MSRP.

lolu, i think there's some confusion here. what i think you're referring to are the truth-in-advertising laws; that if they advertise it for a certain price, they have to sell it for that price...that's why dealers are careful to include the VIN of the car(s) they're featuring in their advertising. however, there is no regulation on how much a dealer can ask for their cars. MSRP only stands for manufacturer's suggested retail price.

actually, i believe vehicles are allocated by the factory but the info about which vehicles are going where is available for all the dealers to see. dealers are free to work out trades between themselves for vehicles they already have on their lot or that have been allocated to them or even buy cars from other dealers but both dealers have to be in agreement as to the terms and compensation. there is no hijacking or claiming another dealers' vehicles.

I feel your pain neanie1680. For months I was getting ready, researching, reading about Honda CR-V. I thought - what a perfect car for us. So, we go to the first dealer in Salt Lake City, test drive it, we liked the car, it's not underpowered but it's not very powerful either. Leather is nice but not a Lexus or Accura either. So, the salesman tells us - we can give you $500 off the MSRP. Okay, but is that the final price, I mean, can you do any better than that? He says - we are selling them just about as fast as we can get them. It's $500 off and that's it. We walk out. I send emails to two other Honda dealers in the city. One came back with $600 off the MSRP. And again - not willing to negotiate. I found CR-V dealers pretty arrogant when it comes to pricing. So, last week we go and check out Toyota RAV4X4 V6 (269 hp). My wife hits the gas and the vehicle takes off. You can feel the power pulling the pavement from under the wheels. And immediately I see a milewide smile on her face. To make a long story short, today she's a happy owner of a RAV4 4X4 V6 (with leather) for almost the same price - $25985. Thanks to the rigid pricing of a few Honda dealers. Now to Honda (marketing) people, if you are reading these lines, you just lost one customer who was ready to buy a CR-V at a decent price. That means you have just lost a couple of thousands in service, parts, accessories etc. And to dealers - you just lost a couple of hundreds and service and parts and... Just imagine how many retail units you lost for Honda by arrogantly pricing your cars. How many people walked across the street to Toyota because they were ready to give them a better deal? So, I will try to remind you all that - YOU hold the wallet and you determine where your money will go. If they aren't willing to give you a good deal - keep walking. Sooner or later you'll find something even better or you'll get your price you're willing to pay. As for me - I'll see you Honda Corp. & Honda dealers in about 5 years when I am up to buy the next car. Maybe...
