Hi SAB,
I just purchase an 05 EX Fuller Honda, and I was happy with the deal, I'm not sure if they are makig deal on 06 yet, but I'm sure if you will talk to my sales man he can help you out. The problem is I can not post any name or email to tell you the contact person.

They even threw out the roof rack, whell lock and front mud guard.

where are you located in San Diego, I am from chula Vista.

"Hardly "none sense" to invest in a car that causes little trouble and holds great resale down the road."

I agree with your statement but many of us do not necessarily believe that a CR-V is a car with "little trouble". After getting past the defective oil filters and fire issues- some of us have had failure of seat back sensors at $750, air conditioner compressors that come apart in pieces-and put shrapnel in the systems costing $3000 to repair(with a noisy replacement)- damage one tire on a V AWD and you have to buy four. Hot key. Like you at least I have escaped the PTTR issue.

Your post says to me that you either aren't really serious about purchasing a CR-V or that you are way too frustrated about pricing. Like I said try other dealers or look at and price other vehicles. Then you can make a more informed decision.

"if it doesn't catch fire .. right?" - if you're so concerned about a potential sloppy dealer service issue change your oil yourself. It's really not that difficult.

midwesttrader: I appreciate your earlier post about the different options you suggested. You read my mind in a way..I am frustrated about the pricing... I am actually going to take your advise and look at other vehicles. If I am going to spend 26K on the CR-V (not saying the cr-v isn't worth it), then I will test drive the Highlander and see what happens. The oil filter issue is a concern for me since the wife will be driving the car with a baby on board. Thanks for the advise, it makes a lot of sence.

The oil filter was a batch of filters that had been used for a finite period of time. The filter manufacturer used a gasket compound that reacted with the aluminum block in such a way that it fused to the block. Those filters are no longer used. It was always a non issue after the first oil change any way. Any mecahnic worth his or her salt should have seen the gasket stuck to the block and removed it. Obviously there are some that are not worth their salt.

This whole thing is a non issue. That said, when the time comes for my first oil change, I will remind them to look.

If you are going to fret over these things, you shold probably buy something different. Before you do, however, go to the problems boards. People complain about every make and model.

The isolated fires were caused by careless people who didn't bother making sure the old gasket didn't stick.

I don't know what a "seat back sensor" even is.

Only heard about the A/C compressors in these forums. Must be pretty isolated events and it sounds like Honda jumped in and helped those with problems.

And, you DON'T have to buy four tires if one get's damaged. do you believe everything you read in internet forums?

No car is perfect.

SRS seat back sensor is $750.00
controls the inflation of the air bag. Not sure what causes them to go bad, probably passenger's perspiration from the a/c not working!

On Honda's AWD if there is a difference in the circumference(not diameter) of the tires of over 1.5 inches the vehicle senses one wheel is turning faster and thinks it is slipping and goes into 4 wheel drive-all the time. It makes a terrible hum and your gas mileage goes south. The tires were rotated, the rear differential fluid was changed- it finally took an independent to tell me what the problem was- and with new tires cars operation returned to normal.

As to a/c compressor failure- in this area Honda shop and Honda independents are seeing a larger number than usual of failures-the unit literally breaking into many pieces -with dealer estimate of $3000+. AHMC customer service was less than gracious- and it took over 3 weeks to get the unit back into service despite all of the parts being available.

First I've heard of the SRS sensor. Must be pretty rare.

I understand on the tire situation. this is probably the case on a lot of 4WD cars. 1.5 inches is a LOT of difference!

And, I've only read about the A/C problem here. Have to wonder what percentage of cars are affected?
