Replying to: zakiman (Sep 27, 2005 9:50 am) I am in the DC area as well. We are buying a CR-V because of previous experience with Hondas & our local dealer. We would have also considered the RAV-4, but we like the room of the Honda. Also, I believe that the window in the rear door of the RAV-4 is fixed, which limits access. We really didn't consider safety & gas mileage as our top priorities, but we believe that the CR-V will be quite acceptable in those areas. We didn't need the bells & whistles either, so the LX (AWD, auto) fit the bill for us. We're buying at Herson's Honda in Rockville, MD. |

Went to the dealer over the week-end looking for an 05 CR-V SE, but they said the 05's are gone, only thing left is the 06. Test drove the 06, and the wife and kids were very happy with it. We started talking price and the salesperson claims that the 06 sells for or close to sticker price ( $26000). I gave him a hand shake and said bye bye...Do they think I am naive enough to buy a car I went to another dealer and they said that they can work with me on the price , but also mentioned that if they get the car from another place locally , they will charge me a $515 for something called 'reconditioning'. This reconditioning includes the following: Inspect the car, 4 wheel locks, 4 mud-guards, the strip that they put on the door ....) Is this legitimate or is it one of those $$ tricks some dealers like to play ? I bought a Honda 3 yrs ago and had the mudguards, wheel locks and the stripping done for a $100 . Sure times have changed.... Thanks for any comments or suggestions

Replying to: zakiman (Oct 03, 2005 1:19 pm) They are selling 4 wheel lock for $29.95, 2 front mud guard for $37.20 and the Door Edge Guards for $39.60 plus S/H. Unless these accessories already are installed on that vehicle they are trying to do dealer trade, why not installing them by yourself? I do not know about door edge guard but wheel lock and mud guard can be done by any beginner. I would not pay $400 for installation and inspect the car. It is the brand new car. What has to be inspected?? Go to hondacars.com and locate the dealer near you. Get quote as many you can. Most dealer has matching price policy. Go to the dealer near you and show them the lowest quote you received and ask them to beat or match it. |

I live in the San Diego, CA area. This is the first time I will be negotiating the price on a new car ALL BY MYSELF. I have done some research and feel comfortable with what I already know. My questions are Will a Honda dealer negotiate? Has anyone purchased a 2006 recently and if so, what did they pay? SAB

>>Inventories are so slim on CRV's now especially the SE's that there really isn't any need to deeply >>discount them. why the CR-V's is so special ? I am not buying a Mercedes here... I can understand the comfort, safety and roominess...but buying a car at msrp is none sence in today's world. What about the $515 inspection fee the Honda dealer supposed to charge me to inspect a BRAND NEW vehicule ????.. New Vehicule inspectio+mud guards+wheel locks= $515 ... where is the logic here my friend. respectfully. zaki

Replying to: zakiman (Oct 04, 2005 8:43 am) - Try expanding your search area - Try working a deal where the accesories are free if you pay msrp - Ask for some free service if you pay msrp - Wait, supply will eventually increase and pricing fall - Shop some other vehicles |

Replying to: zakiman (Oct 04, 2005 8:43 am) I don't understand the 515.00 "inspection fee" either. Never heard of such a dumb thing. Adding popular accessories is pretty common since most people want those things anyway. |

Replying to: isellhondas (Oct 04, 2005 12:15 pm) if it doesn't catch fire .. right? I am aware of the Honda 'quality', 'reliability' and 'safety' ...trust me I drive an 02 Accord myself. I do respect your opinion about the MSRP if the market dictates it, but I'll never buy a car at that price. I am currently evaluating the CR-V since I heard about the "fire after oil change" problem. Nevertheless, I appreciate your honesty.
