Hondacare Warranty by bbear

I recently bought an 05 CR-V EX, 5 speed for about $200 less than the TMV price. At the finance office they offered me the Hondacare warranty for $1500 with no negotiation. I turned that down, but my internet salesman, who is new, said that he could get me the Hondacare for $1295. He also stated that he would consider matching a lower price. Pls send me names and prices of dealers who sell the warranty for less. Thanks, bbear

I was offered the warranty as well (like everyone who has bought) when I purchased my CR-V. I turned it down.

Here is my thinking:

First of all, ANY option that they offer you in the finance office is excessively jacked up in price. The backend is where dealerships make most of their profit on the cars that they sell.

Secondly, Hondas are known for their reliability.

When the finance woman asked me if I wanted the warranty I said, "Why would I want the extra warranty? I'm buying a Honda because they are reliable and cost less to maintain."

I read a GREAT article online (I can't find it now though) written by a guy who worked at a car dealership after he was laid off from a tech job. He gave all of the details of how the car dealership works, what on average the various positions make at the dealership, and what extras are not worth buying.

It made me decide not to buy any extras offered in the finance department ever again. In the writer's opinion, and in mine, simply a waste of money. But, to each his own.

If I could find the article, I'd post the link.

Read this thread.. srl99, "Honda Extended Warranties: Pricing and Info" #347, 18 Apr 2005 3:13 pm

Also, you can buy the 7yr/100K warranty from a dealer on-line for under $1100.. Just take an hour and read through that discussion.. all of the info is in there..

Did you purchase after the lease or it was a purchase and sales agreement? What was your percentage rate? 298 a month seems awfuly low for a CRV EX. How long ago was it and what model? My problem is I get bored easy and I know in a few years I will want a new car. I live less than a mile from work and never drive.

Can I negotiate more miles for less money than they are worth? I get bored easily with a car and I know I will want to get rid of it in 3-4 years.

Is leasing a car for four years that bad? The money per month would be easier on my pocket with 4 instead of 3. I know the warrenty will change but aren't Honda's reliable?

CRV SE marked way up? Price Premium? by ebill66

My Father purchased a CRV SE just a few days ago in Bremerton, WA. with very few additional options (floormats, mud guards, a fabric cover for the rear storage area.)

Apparently, the dealer there is charging a $2800 premium over the MSRP, referred to as a "market adjustment." He was told this is a common thing.

Though I have heard of premiums of varying $$$ amounts being charged on different Honda models through the years, 10% seemed like an awful lot. Some research on the web seems to indicate he paid too much.

Any insights or recent experiences to share regarding a premium being charged on 2005 CRVs across the U.S.?

Thanks for any information!

What Shold I Pay for Accesories by chiefjs

I have done a lot of research on the CRV-SE and I want one with a lot of interior and exterior accessories.

CR shows the dealer cost of $23,078. That is a $23,836 invoice with a $758 dealer holdback. A 7% profit on the car would sell for $24,693, 6% $24,463. CR says a 4-8% profit is reasonable depending on the popularity and availability of the car.

Now I want $4,243 worth of accessories (install not included), metal look trim, rear sensors, chrome sides steps, fender flares, fog lights, auto day/night mirror, etc.

Anyone have any thought on how you figure the accessories into the deal?

The Honda website shows an MSRP with these accessories at $30,018, but I am not sure if they mean "without installation." I figure a 7% profit with the accessories at $29,234, 6% at $28,960.

Any thought on how I should approach this? I am thinking of just giving them the list of what I want and visiting several dealers just to see who gives the best price.

To my best recollection, the last time dealers have been able to regularly pad Honda MSRPs was back in the 1980s. Since then, MSRP has pretty much been the max. Nowadays, even invoice deals can be routinely had, though not so much on the CRV. I am familiar with Kitsap County and feel that West Hills Honda was never really even remotely competitive with the Seattle dealers...my theory is that they can live off of the Navy sailors who return to port with a pile of cash burning a hole in their pocket or civilians who choose not to price shop in Seattle or Tacoma. Buyer beware in small local (isolated) markets like Kitsap where it is hard to comparison shop. At least he bought a car that will make him smile, even if he paid a little too much for it.
