The reasonable number of repair attempts will depend on the circumstances including the seriousness of the defect. For example, one or two repair attempts may be considered reasonable for serious safety defects such as brake failure. There are some provisions of the law in your state. |

Well.....took it ot he dealer , they replaced the sensor, still doesn't work, they called the Kia techical department and they really don't have an answer. They even took one that has never been driven, poured cold water on the sensor , brought it down to 66 degrees , we took it for a test drive and the temp guage on that would not raise either. this is an internal Kia problem, not an individual problem, and they believe the problem is worse when in a hot climate. I will be writing Kia Corporate a letter offering them to refund my money between the EX and LX version as the outside temp guage was one of the main reasons I bought the EX ( its important to know if you are going to incinerate yourself in Phoenix!!!) I'll keep you posted.

| Can you tell me where the sensor is located and is the connector that you are unpluging close to the sensor? As of now we are not experiancing any temp sensor problems but nice to know where it is located. My peave is the sensor for the automatic headlights. It almost has to be pitch black before they are activated. would be nice to have them come on when dusk is starting not at pitch black. | |
| Maybe I can help. And this is what I read from 2003 Sorento Technical Highlights. It can be found on Kia website. The ambient sensor is located forward of the condenser fan shroud. They didn't show it with pictures. Also, the in-car sensor and humidity sensor (part of the in-car sensor, to reduce fogged windows) are located in the lower center console to the left of the climate control panel. It looks like a small grill or vent to the left of the A/C button. | |

I kept reading more about the self-diagnosis and fail-safe functionality on Full Auto Temparture Control (FATC), a/k/a auto climate control. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are retrieved using the switches on the FATC control panel. (1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (2) Set the temparture to 77'F (25'C) (3) Hold A/C switch down and press the Mode switch more than three times within five seconds. All graphic segments will blink two times at the rate of four cycle per second. The letters "HHCC" will then appear and blink at the same rate. At that point, self-diagnostic will initiate. After all DTCs are displayed, the codes will be displayed two additional times before the FATC unit exists the self-diagnostic routine. Here are the DTC codes: E0 = Normal E1 = In-car sensor fail E2 = Ambient sensor fail E3 = Fin sensor(#1) fail E5 = Photo sensor(#2) fail E6 = Temp door potentiometer fail #1 Fin sensor is a negative temparture coefficient thermistor installed on the evaporator core... to prevent evaporator freezing. #2 Photo sensor is located near the driver side defrost duct, uses a photovoltaic diode to transmit light level information to the FATC control unit. The compensates for change in solar radiation by adjusting the blower speed and discharge temparture. |

I have a 2003 Sorento EX with about 75000km's on it and having this problem very sporatically. When I am travelling at a slow speed (usually in a parking lot) and in the process of turning right it feels like the vehicle is shifting into 4-low. There is an obvious drag feel and some noises in the back end. One time when this happened I stopped as soon as I felt it and put the vehicle in park. I was about to get out when the car lurched ahead abit before going into park with a noise. I can go 5000km's between occurences. The Kia delearship has looked at it a couple times but can't determine the problem. The problem is they are trying to replicate the situation and it never happens for them. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

Replying to: tjacques (Jul 06, 2004 10:05 am) I have to mention that I had a transfer case replace last summer. Few weeks before the replacement, it drove like it is at 4Lo mode when making turns with drag feeling and noise. I wasn't pay attention and I thought I was making a quick U-turn. Then a day before the replacement, it was getting wrost. It drove like it was at 4Lo all the time in any driving condition, straight or turns. I am glad I wasn't travel and the dealer is only minutes away. |

| I have the 2003 LX and when I first turn the AC on, coming from both the top towards me and my feet, everything is fine.....for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, warm air will start coming out from the feet area while the air towards my body is still cold. Has anyone run accross this problem? God, I'm so glad this board exists! I found the issue with my clock! LOL. Thanks. | |

Replying to: johnschleifer (Jul 05, 2004 7:10 pm) My salesperson told me that if they can't get it to work that they will end up reimbursing me something for the fact they can't get it to work, I'm thinking they can put on the spoiler , the side bars and the 6 CD changer for free...... In summation, I think the problem is in hot weather climates. It seems there are not a lot of people on this message board agreeing with our problem. Don't give up your fight to get it fixed. I will update you after the dealer has my car for the day.
