The X3 is assembled in Austria.. It won't be made in SC, until the 2009 or 2010 model...

X5 and Z4... for now..

... and the Z4 leaves our shores soon as well. Believe the upcoming X6 will be built in SC, but no coupes or sedans at this time. Does the X6 come across as something spawned in a marketing meeting?

Agree that the 550i is an incredible car. Although the MB e550 has more HP, the driving experience is totally unique in the BMW. I have the '03 530 and have driven the 535SP at length (brother owns one). Still love that BMW straight 6!

The 550i premium over the 535 may seem steep, but you just have to drive them to experience the difference, subtle it may be.

I have a feeling I'm in the minority here, but I actually like what I've seen of the X6 so far. That could change when I see one in person, but I'm not turned off by it.

As a single person I don't see myself ever buying a 'crossover', though. If I wanted a truck, I'd buy a truck. If I wanted a car, I'd buy a car.

If I had kids, and I needed something that I could take to the golf course as well as soccer games, I'd take a look at the X6.

Any good experiences or advice on pricing out of area dealers? Any reason or target any specific area of the country?

right now I am emailing all dealers within 50 miles asking for best prices.

Lastly, anyone drive both 535i and 528i and just shake their head? Looks like I can save $100/month leasing a 528i but havent driven it yet...only 535i.

5-series offers by ATL dealer by smithsonga

one of my local dealers seems to be taking the strategy to offer me Invoice+2% on 528i or 535i.

So if a 528i msrp is $51,270 and invoice is $47650, they offer $48603 ($953 over invoice).

535i would be msrp of $56,670, invoice of $52,771, they offer $53826 ($1055 over invoice)

Are these good prices?

these deals give me these leases payments using the november rates posted

535i, 36 month at $754, 24 month at $760. 10k miles
528i, 36 month at $679, 24 month at $640. 10k miles.

What is unsure is the out of pocket. they mandate a $399 doc fee (pretty much standard here in ATL). I assume security deposit+first month. I am unsure about the ACQ fee...I normally see them squeeze that into the lease cap cost, but I would push to eliminate it basically.

I'm in the SF Bay Area...

I picked up a 2008 535i for my wife for $55,900; MSRP was $60,045 and Invoice was $55,210 with the following options:

ZPP Premium Pkg
ZSP Sport Pkg
416 Sun Shade, Power Rear, Manual sides
322 Comfort Access, Keyless Start & Entry
609 Navigation System, Voice Activated
6FL Radio Equipment, iPod & USB Connector
655 Radio Equipment, Sirius Feature
494 Seats, Heated Front

I negotiated between 2 dealers and it took about a week... but it was done all by email. I spent less than 1.5hrs at the dealership taking care of the paperwork and doing the show/tell of features.

The most painless car buying experience I've ever had!

That is a good deal, 1.2% over invoice.

I will be working on a similar deal this week with....at least 5 dealers.

Right now I am trying to verify true invoice price. I have 4 sources, and 4 different #s. The dealership, kelley bb, cars.com and carsdirect.com. about $800 difference.......

The best way to check true invoice pricing on BMWs is bimmerfest.com

Go to the forums section and then got to 5 series for current invoice pricing.
