About to Purchase 06 530xi, help pls......... by nattyb

Hello,
My car I've spec'd is:
Sport pkg
Prem Pkg
Nav
Cold Weather
Prem Sound
Satellit Radio
Total as built (w/ 695 destination) = $57,140.
Invoice = $52,085.

Dealer has said that for a 36 month lease, with 15,000 miles, he will give me a money factor of .001750
Residual Value: 60%

What do you folks think of money factor and how much above invoice should I be willing to pay? (there are three dealers in my area, so I can be pretty aggressive w/ price negotiation.)

Thank you!

Price for 2006 525xi by bsquared02

Dealer has a 2006 525xi on the lot. I researched invoice price on Edmunds and xchecked with Consumer Reports and made an offer that was apx $500 over. Salesperson responded that policy is not to "sell below invoice". I'm wondering where the discrepancy may be. Here are the figures:

Invoice: 40,855
destination: 695
Premium pkg: 1,820
Auto trans: 1,210
Cold Weather: 685
Fold rear seat 430

Total Inv. 45,695.

I offered $46,200. Any thoughts as to why salesperson says this is "under invoice"??
Thanks

I am no expert, but my guess is that your invoice number does not incorporate the MACO/advertising fee that your dealer has to pay to corporate, which varies by dealer. You can do a search on "MACO" on the this thread to pull up relevant discussions regarding the fee.

The Edmunds invoice amount does NOT include MACO (varies by locale) or Training fees.

The MACO is $425, at least in California. Training fee is $180. I'm not sure what exactly a training fee is, but it seems to make up for the discrepancy between the dealer base invoice and the Edmunds base invoice. In other words, the Edmunds invoice I believe already has this $180 incorporated into its number. When you get to the dealer, their base invoice will be $180 less than what you see on Edmunds.

Adding the $425 to your number, you would arrive at $46,120. So your offer was $80 over invoice. That would be a total deal, especially on a 2006! I could see a dealer making that kind of a deal on a 2005 to move it off the lot, but not really for an in-demand 2006 model. I think $900-1000 over invoice is probably more realistic.

Questions before first BMW purchase (dishonest dealer?) by rbc3az

Hello All,

I am considering purchasing a pre owned 2004 530i from a european car (not just BMWs) dealer. The car exterior is black with chrome trim around the windows. The interior has black leather(ette?) and titanium trim. The dealer specs list the car as having both the Premium and Sport packages. From my research, I've learned that the 2004 Premium package includes leather, maple wood trim and universal garage door opener. However, I could not find the usual garage door opener buttons and it definitely does not have maple wood trim. In addition, the Sport Package is supposed to include run flat tires. The car however, has a spare in the trunk. Is this normal for a car with run flats? Could the dealer be misrepresenting the car? Is there an easy way for me to verify that the car truly does have the Premium and Sport packages?

Finally, the dealer has the car listed for a little less than 39k and it has about 11500 miles on it. Is this a good deal for a 2004 530i? Even if it didn't have the Premium and Sport packages? What would be a fair price I should negotiate for?

Thanks a lot for your help.

You can get a true market value (TMV) on edmunds.com. Once you have that information, you can decide what you want to pay and make an offer. Based on what my dealer is selling 04 530s for, I think your dealer's price is reasonable, even without knowing what's on the car.

Speaking of which, you can find out what came on the car by the VIN. See whether you can get the dealer to run the #. If he won't, maybe you can get him to give you the # so you can do your own check. If he won't cooperate at all, run like hell (and find another dealer).

If it's a U.S. car, it does NOT have the Premium or the Sport Package!

The SP-equipped 530i has Shadowline (matte black) trim, NOT chrome, around the windows. Also, the SP has seven-spoke 18x8.0 wheels with 245/40R-18 run-flats vs. five-spoke 17x7.5 wheels with 225/50R-17 all-season (non-RF) for the non-SP.

The lack of wood trim and universal garage door opener also indicates NO Premium Package.

You might want to copy the VIN and have the local BMW dealer check the database.

For pricing, check Edmund's TMV as already indicated.

I would avoid 2004 E60 as much as possible. This was the first year of production and is known for many issue. A nice low milage 2003 540 for much less than $39K would be my choice.
