But not all dealers will give you this number. The second dealer I went to was up front and honest and showed me the numbers (the first dealer I went to put in his own number for the MMR price, which was about $3K higher than actual). This second dealer said he would sell me the car at MMR. When other dealers started to call me to CPO my car with them, I aked if they too would sell me the car at MMR. Reluctantly they agreed. Then I worked on the CPO pricing. It was easy when you have a number of dealers competing for your business. Ultimately, I went with the upfront and honest dealer mentioned above. It is amazing at the deal one can get if you are educated about the pricing. |

Buying the warranty separately (now an option) was more costly.

Replying to: pen101 (Jan 03, 2005 5:14 pm) I see that you purchased the extended warranty for about $200 below dealer cost (if the BMW memo is correct). Did you get any idea of the dealer's actual cost for the CPO/extended warranty? Thanks

Replying to: seloo (Jan 03, 2005 8:58 pm) They are required to bring the car up to CPO standards of course, but the dealers actual payment to BMWNA for the CPO warranty/designation is about $1000... Even though it is identical to the CPO warranty (thanks to you, I know that now), when they sell you the extended warranty on a car you already own, then that is a different transaction with different pricing.. regards, kyfdx

Ok....I have a shade under three years and about 49k miles to go until this is going to be an issue for me, but...... If my 530i is relatively problem-free my plan is to purchase at lease end. I have a nice subsidy from my business on a leased car right now, so it's not a bad way to own this sucker long term. Anyway, what type of things are NOT covered once we hit 50k on these machines? I had a certified Audi A8, and they were very finicky on what was covered. I wouldn't expect wear items like brakes to be included, but electrical stuff wasn't always under their warrant. Almost seemd like I needed to search out my preferred service tech to see if he could "slip it in" under warranty. So....as a BMW newbie, how is the CPO overall? I know it's probably worthwhile to get (maybe even necessary?), but will I be frustrated with non-coverage? Thanks! |

Replying to: pen101 (Jan 04, 2005 5:23 pm) Never said the "dealer" made money .... said: BMWFS made money .. dealer did the paperwork, probably made few hundred, maybe, if any, and will hope to service the vehicle in the future, then make money ...................... Terry.

Replying to: rroyce10 (Jan 05, 2005 6:56 am) I think pen101 was incredibly lucky to find a dealer that would disclose MMR price, and do this deal for a very minimal profit (if any).. I'm happy for him, but wouldn't you consider this a hard thing to pull off for most buyers approaching lease-end on their BMW? regards, kyfdx |

Is there such a thing as MACO? The guy at the dealer is saying... "MACO is a fee charged to all Bay Area Region dealers at 1% of the base invoice price of the car." Is there such a thing? And is the value of 1% correct? I'm getting areally good price over invoice, but this MACO value would be applied. Just want to know if it's valid. Thanks.
