Hi Harry,

I am looking to lease a bmw 328i in the south fl area. I have already been at Brahman in Miami, but did not get a decent deal. Some friends suggested to go to the bmw's at Broward, wanted to know if you agreed, also would you mind sharing the deal you got? I know this basically depends on the area where you live, also what did they charge you for inceptions? I read different things on different places.
thanks in advance.

Any suggestions on a good deal??? 328i South FL by jezmia

Hi,

I know this question has been asked many times over, but each case is different. I am looking to get a 328i automatic with power front seats and metallic paint. The dealer is quoting $35,920, MF .00175 residual factor 63% 36months 12k miles, inceptions $1215, I have asked a detailed inceptions, but still have not got it, he just said that he was not charging any Bank acquisition fees or Dealer Fees (which he said a lot of dealer add at the last minute to increase inceptions). monthly payments $460+taxes. This seems very high to me???

I also got this other offer $475 included taxes $0 out of pocket, $0 down payment, something they call sign and drive, but this one was for a 328i sedan automatic, basic paint, no extras. Now the salesperson was not that nice, so not sure if he was just bluffing and he game me a figure and can't really do it.

any suggestions on how I can bring the price of the vehicle down or the mf down or plainly get a good deal. Ideally I would like to get my payments $400 including taxes or maybe $400 plus taxes, $0 down, but want the automatic, metallic paint and power seats which are more money. is this realistic???

Normally, would you suggest doing $0 down inceptions only or sign and drive $0 out of pocket, $0 down ???

thanks for replying....

"No point in getting an alarm on a BMW."

Why is that? What about break-ins to steal contents? Wouldn't an audio alarm (triggered by vibration or glass breakage) serve as somewhat of a deterrent, or at least limit the amount of time a thief had to rummage through the car? And if the alarm had ignition kill, wouldn't it be more difficult to steal?

My CA is trying to convince me to get LoJack instead of an alarm, but if the alarm prevents the car theft, LoJack wouldn't be needed (except, maybe, for a carjacking), would it?

Car alarms are the biggest joke. If somebody wants to steal your car, they're going to take it. When's the last time you heard a car alarm going off, stopped what you were doing, and immediately called the police?

LoJack: If somebody steals my car, they can have it. I don't want it back. LoJack is very expensive and the cost doesn't justify the insurance reduction. The real pros know how to disable LoJack.

1. No, it won't be a deterrent as alarms are ignored and even smash and grabbers know that. A smash and grab thief does the deed because he can see something to take. It takes 5 seconds to bust a window and take something. Nobody will even look at him or care. There was a video for awhile of a guy on youtube wandering around a casino smashing windows with a brick in a bag and pocketing stuff.
2. A professional thief is no more bothered by an alarm than you would be by an annoying children's toy with a visible off switch. And again, nobody will even glance at him if the alarm goes off.
3. BMWs have an ignition kill. BMWs are not stolen by joyriders; they like 91 Camrys. BMWs are stolen by pros who can turn off an alarm in seconds. And if they're taking BMWs then they have the necessary tools to fool your car's computer easily or they'll simply tow the car. Ever seen a towed car going down the highway with its alarm going off? Does anyone call the cops? Nope. You assume the tow truck has the right.

My CA is trying to convince me to get LoJack instead of an alarm, but if the alarm prevents the car theft, LoJack wouldn't be needed (except, maybe, for a carjacking), would it?

The alarm won't stop a pro and lojack just means you might get back your car - assuming you discover the theft soon after the car's been boosted - any later and the car is in pieces or on a boat out of the country. If your car is stolen, hope it never comes back to you as it won't be the same.

And never leave anything of value in your car. If you can't afford to lose it, it shouldn't be in something as vulnerable as a car. Glass windows aren't real secure. Ever used a slimjim? Scary how easy that is! Alarms go off everyday and nobody looks. Don't leave anything of value in your car and you'll never have to worry as the car's insured. Let it go...it's just a car.

If the alarm comes with the car, good. My '06 330 came without one and still has none. Alarms are a challenge for thieves. They like it and will get ANY nonetheless. The good ones just disable the alarm and hook up the car to a tow truck and go. Real fast and painless.

My motto: If your affraid it will be stolen, it will.

If you purchase BMW Assist, it's like lojack anyway. Save your money, IMO.

OW

I asked my CA why I would need LoJack, since the car comes with BMW Assist. He said they serve different purposes (I guess BMW Assist isn't supposed to find stolen BMWs, just accident-prone ones). He also said that BMW Assist works via GPS, so a satellite needs to be able to see it, whereas LoJack works via radio-waves, which can penetrate buildings and enclosures.

My concern about LoJack is, I can envision a high speed police chase resulting in the death of innocent people, and the BMW probably being totaled in the process. No thanks, I do not want any part of that, and I certainly would not want the car back afterwards.

I'm not really concerned about professional car thieves, primarily just the amateurs (teenagers and similar hooligans). Occasionally my small dog is left sleeping in the car while I am (usually) within sight and/or sound of the car. I would certainly want to thwart a dog-napping. Also, I don't know if amateurs are aware that a portable XM radio would be useless to steal because the XM subscription is linked to its serial number. I am planning to have a portable GPS hardwired in, but I know to remove that from sight after parking the car. I'm also planning to have a V-1 hardwired in, which would also need to be shielded from view.

On a tangent, I can't help remembering that, not long ago, a very popular local suburban high school boy was shot to death (shot in the back as he tried to flee) after his BMW 3-series was carjacked. I guess it sticks in my memory because it was a 3-series BMW. I don't know if there is any way to be protected from a situation like that, but I worry because in a few years I may pass the Bimmer along to my teenage daughter. I know it could happen with any car, but, in this case, it was a 3-series BMW, so I can't help relating.

I've been approved to assume a lease on a 2007 335i. Alpine white, premium and sports packages.
24 months and 24k miles left on lease.
$535/month.

Is that a good deal?
Thanks

Dr. Rocket,

An amateur car thief simply can't steal a BMW. Unless it's a carjacking, a joyrider won't be able to take your car. You cannot hotwire a BMW. You can't screwdriver it like a honda/toyota/gm. The best defense against a carjacking - auto-locking (you can configure this in a 3 series) and being vigilant.

I understand your concerns but you need to let 'em go. If you keep worrying, you will attract exactly those events! Sorry for the psych stuff but I would just enjoy whatever car you have and be careful but not overly so. Alarm systems are close to worthless. I don't have one in my house either.

For the portable GPS, remember to wipe your window where the base mount suction cup leaves a mark if you use one. That's one of the ways they know you have one and assume you are hiding it somewhere in the car.

OW
