Wide World of Cars BMW in Spring Valley, NY. This is the 3rd car we've leased from them this year (my Dad's '07 X5 3.0si, My wife's '07 X3 3.0si, & my Mom's '08 328xi) in addition to my parents' 2 former BMWs ('04 x5 3.0i & '05 530i).

I used Edmunds as a guide to determine its invoice when I took delivery of my '08 328i yesterday. It is realy subjective because its a BMW and that it went back and forth to get to $500 over Edmunds invoice.

Realistically, it would be hard to get to the BASE INVOICE because one would look foolish trying to get to that number for BMWs (i.e. a little to cover the overhead for the dealership, the rubber floor mats, splash guards, wheel locks, that one would negoitate to seal the deal).

The $205 I paid over invoice is "Edmunds Invoice".

If I included the advertising and service/training fees that the dealership tacked onto the "Dealership Invoice" price, then I paid $375 BELOW their invoice.

2008 328i sedan folding back seat by ssanders1

Does anyone know if the 2008 328i sedan's backseat folds down. The catalog indicated that it is standard, yet, I was unable to find the latch that allows it to fold down. Is it possible that the folding option is with the Cold Package and not as standard as indicated?

The fold-down rear seat is definitely NOT standard. As you speculated, it is part of the cold weather package (along with heated seats & headlamp washers), or can be added as a stand-alone option for $475 list.

Looking for advice on 335i Coupe by bobs05coupe

I am looking at getting a 2008 335i Coupe in Alpine White with black interior.
Options are: Steptronic, paddle shifters, comfort access, cold weather pkg, park distance control, premium pkg, sport pkg, nav system, satellite radio and the iPod adapter. MSRP is $51,295. I'm located on the central coast of Calif. I moved here about 6 months ago from upstate NY and the dealers are telling me that since I get bored with any vehicle after 2 years, that a lease would be better for me. Also in Calif, when you trade in a vehicle, you do not get the sales tax from the value of the trade applied towards the new car. So a lease sounds better in that regard. If I go with a lease, what would be the best deal I can get for the MF, etc.?
Also if anyone can suggest a good dealer near San Luis Obispo and up to 200 miles away, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Help with a 328xi 07 Wagon Deal? by tenmiler

I'm down to the wire between a couple of cars, and the dealer here has one Barrique Red '07 328xi wagon. Only issue is seeing if my dog likes the back of it--it's much smaller than my current 04 XC70.

Options: Premium, STEP, Cold Weather, Xenon, Metallic

MSRP: 43275 (edmunds), Invoice (edmunds) 39860
Selling Price: 40597 +tax
36 Months Lease
12K/year
Residual: 62%
MF: .0019 (incl. a .001 reduction to MF from BMW)
Price: $535.20 plus tax

This all expires tomorrow, so I'm going to be looking at it one last time after researching a car that I think is a great one, for sure. Hoping SIRIUS and iPod adapter can be added later...

Read as much as you can on the Leasing forum:

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.ef9d9c7?displayRecent

Your information on leasing and taxes in Calif is accurate. The December base money factor, also called the "buy rate" for the 335i coupe is .00235. January rates may go up a bit, if rumors are to be believed. That would be the lowest you can expect to pay, except for the effect of refundable security deposits ("SD", equal to one month's lease payment, raised to the closest $50). (Before security deposits, be prepared for the payment on the car that you describe to be over $700 a month.)

First of all, if you are a new BMW customer, you'll have to pay one SD or they will bump up your MF by .00015. Then, you can pay up to seven additional SDs and each one will lower your MF by .00007. So you can lower your MF to .00186 with eight SDs, which adds up to about $5,600 that your dealer would hold throughout the lease, and then give back to you at the end of the lease. Each SD will probably lower your monthly payment by only $5 to $7, but that adds up.

Try not to put any money down, meaning no "customer cash or customer cap reduction". You should expect to pay one security deposit, first month's payment, DMV fee, an acquisition fee of between $625 and $825, and a few hundred in additional fees, most of which are dealer profit and somewhat negotiable. Some of these, such as the acquisition fee, are usually rolled into the lease, but you can pay them out of pocket.

I don't know about good dealers near SLO, but you are better off emailing a bunch of dealers through Edmunds. If you only work with your closest dealer, they'll have no motivation to cut you a good deal. You'll get responses from the internet managers at the dealers you email, at least from those that are interested in your business. Tell them that you're ready to lease with the dealer with the best offer, and tell them the amount you're willing to pay over invoice. I would get a list of dealers from BMWUSA.com and pick the ones that you'd be willing to drive to, even as far away as San Jose. You should be able to complete the deal via email and phone and only drive to the dealer once, to complete the deal.

Good luck, and post your leasing experience here for us.

What a total disappointment. I learned today only after showing up at the dealer that the price I was given was "for BMW owners only". While I understand the loyalty program for car mfrs, I was not told this was the case, and in fact had mentioned my current car in the email thread... I really like the car, but the price jumped over $120 a month! They are even selling it as a demo. It has 140 miles on it.

I do'nt think it was a 'bait and switch', it just seemed like an honest mistake but I spent two hours driving the car and hearing how great the 3 series is as a drivers car, blah blah blah.

Am I crazy to ask them for that price as a non-previous owner? I don't know that they have much choice in a lease situation as it's not their program, but didn't know if they could ask for an exception from BMW. OK, wishful thinking...
