I emailed BMW and asked them if it was ok to use 87 octane, they responded with the following reply: Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding fuel for a new BMW 3 Series. We are happy to address your query. BMW recommends premium gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 91 AKI. Our BMW engines are equipped with knock sensors and will adapt automatically to different octane ratings, provided the minimum octane requirement (87 AKI) is met. Fuels with higher octane ratings will provide enhanced performance with lower fuel consumption; however, fuels with lower octane ratings will have the opposite effect. I have had the car for two month now and have never used premium fuel. I get 30 mpg on the highway and i have been averaging 25.5 mpg overall. I have plenty of performance, this car screams! |

Latest Autoweek has the new 3 coupe; article mentions a 328 version with 230hp/200lb torque. Does this mean that for 2007 the sedan versions will also be 328 (basically dropping the 325)? I am finalizing a 325i sedan; would hate to buy now and realize after a couple of months that I oculd have got a more powerful car for the same price. Does anyone have any info on the 2007s? I also posted this in the sedans thread, any info would be helpful |
