what should i do by pdiddy2

Hi,

a few days ago, i received a great quote over the phone on a 325i from a local dealer. when i went there, he quoted me a price that was $1800 higher than on the phone. I was upset, finally he came down on his price by $200 (which is ~ 400 dollars over invoice for that car). i did not buy the car from him because of the difference between the initial and final offer.

i got the same quote (~400 over invoice) at another dealer, and so i put down my fully refundable deposite (the car is on its way here). now, the 1st dealer just emailed me and sounded like he wants to re-negotiate.

most of me feel that i should stick to the deal i already have and not bother. but a little part of me wonder if he was going to give me a better deal. what do people think?

thanks in advance

What's a "good deal" to you? Is it strictly the price paid on a car? Or is it the whole experience, before and after the sale?

Personally, I would stick with your current dealer and leave the former guy alone...

Has anyone had actual driving experience in both the 325xi and the 325i and is the xi worth the $2,000.extra? I am 84 and want to have a really great last car as I still drive 8 - 10M miles per year. I know my grandkids will love either one after I'm gone, but does the AWD make any difference here on Long Island, NY.

Thanks,

Burt

I say stay away from the guy who's playing games. Even if he now comes in a little lower, he shouldn't be rewarded with your business after using those tactics. Just my two cents.

2006 330i prices? by guitarmaker

I finally made the decision to buy the 06 330i. What is a fair price for the following specs.

2006 330i RWD
Jet black
Leatherette and aluminum trim
cold weather package
sport package

The car will have to be ordered w/8 weeks delivery

MSRP is $39895, I was given a price from one dealer in NY for $38,485.

I think the invoice is $36545 so the price seems a bit on the high side. Any thoughts?

I agree with bdr127 and jaj. The first guy should not be rewarded the business after he played game on you. Who knows what he is gonna do next? Stick you with some bogus fees? On the other hand, $400 over invoice is a very good deal already, in fact, among the lowest I've seen on this board. How much lower do you expect? $200 as he originally quoted you? Is it worth all the trouble to go back and forth between two dealers and your being unfair to the second guy?

I went to Grayson BMW in Knoxville Tennessee and traded my Hyundai Sonota - did not have much equity into car and Hyundai was going thru new mgmt. changes...

Anyway I did NOT expect to come out with a new car when at dealer...almost had 10,000 miles on Sonota and knew had to trade...

What I got.

$10K down included exterior protection and tire warranty
$202 a month lease payments
24 month lease
20,000 miles on lease

I guess 7 out of 8 cars at this delaer - it seems smart people are doing leases...as less cost...

All Maint. is covered except tire balanced and rotation and wheel alignment...at 15,000 I go in for tune up and BMW pays for it and everything is covered....

The cost of the car was $36K silver metallic
325i sedan 2006 with 20 miles on car

$10k for a 24-month lease translates to about $417 a month, plus $202 you are paying $619 a month for the car. Quite expensive I would say. However, I bet you must be in an up-side-down position on your Hyundai since it is only 10k miles old. Much of your down pay could be for penalty to get out of lease early or covering negative equity. Wondering was there any issue on your Sonata? Otherwise, why did Hyundai's changing management lead you to change car? Breaking a lease early or sell a 1 year-old car is always a money losing proposition.

Finally, advice for future lease: put little or no down payment. You'd be better off putting that money in a saving account and withdraw a proportion every month. Paying high down pay can never be a good idea. Should the car is totaled tomorrow, you lose all of the down payment. It is not your equity, but is called "capitalized cost reduction".

Also I forgot to mention in my 1st post that all new BMWs come with the free 4-yr maintenance. I hope the SA didn't try to convince you that you were getting an even better deal because you got the free maintenance.
