I met with my local dealer yesterday, and again he was shocked by the $3000 off that the Chicago guys are offering me. He said they must be padding the deal elsewhere, so he asked me to get the fine details, and let him know, so he has something to present to his manager. He thinks he may be able to get me $2600 off, but doubts he can do better. Get this, the Chicago dealer said the only other fee he will charge me is $53.52 for documentation. No dealer prep. No ad fee. I pay for tax, title and registration when I get back to Michigan. I e-mailed the info. to the local salesman, and I'm waiting to hear back. I'm starting to consider the color black, because the future Mrs. likes it so much. Any advice on jet black vs. black sapphire, as far as showing scratches, keeping clean, etc.? I also like the silver gray, which is her distant second favorite. Thanks for everyone's help! -drddo |

I'm sure I could have worked the deal for a few hundred more bucks by playing one dealer against another, but my time is far more valuable than that tiny amount of money. From the time we sat down and he showed me the sticker, we were shaking hands on the $34,000 within five minutes. No muss, no fuss. Just to let everyone know, they have a significant number of 325xi's left at this dealership. I checked the stamp on the driver's door and mine was built 12/03, so probably got there in January. There is at least one of every color except for that dark emerald green at the warehouse, so it should be pretty easy for anyone/everyone to get a decent deal here in Chicagoland for the 325xi. I know there are some Chicago-area folks who have been posting that they're looking for a BMW 3-series. I assume it's OK for me to give you the details if you e-mail me.

The rules of the road seem to be you can mention the dealer, but leave off names and phone numbers. Congrats on your purchase. |

Replying to: drddo (May 15, 2004 12:37 pm) BMW looks great in black. I had a 3series in sapphire black before and an X5 in jet black now. As you may know, they look no difference from a distance but personally I like the jet black better and you can save a few hundred more. I just leased a 325i in silver gray and it is a very charming color too. Yes, black color car is easier to "look" dirty especially after rain and the scratch will make you crazy but it looks better when it is cleaned and waxed. You won't regret to have a BMW in black, it is just better than the other color IMO |

| Well, it seems the local Detroit dealers would rather not have my business. They did come down a bit more, but still around $700 above what I am being quoted from multiple dealers in the Chicago area. Since plane tickets only cost $109, I can't pass that price up. I tried to point out that they were still making a tidy profit at what I am presenting to them, but my logic fell on deaf ears. Too bad, both salesmen I was dealing with here are really nice guys! | |

Ok, I have it narrowed down to 2 different cars. Both are titanium silver, gray leather, auto, premium, and cold weather. One has xenons. The model with the xenons will cost me $906 more, both because of the xenons and the fact that it is currently in production, and the car without xenons was built in 11/2003 and is on the dealer's lot. Cars built after January have a base price increase of $300, so the xenons are costing $606. The car will be delivered in mid-June, which may actually work out better for me than picking up the other car in May. Any thoughts? -drddo
