Where do you get that figure of $17k? First, you don't even know the options and are therefore, pricing it out of the blue. Second, I just looked it up on KBB/Edmunds TMV - trade in is $21,000/$22,000 and CPO value is $28,000/29,000.
If your attempt was simply to make me feel bad because I got a lousy deal, just say so - but it appears you made up numbers to look like you are trying to be objective.
Just in case you want to do your own checking:

No offense intended, but you were responding to my response to ANOTHER poster with ANOTHER car. And your response was that dealers can knock a straight $4k-$5k off an asking price, which is not always (and very rarely) the case. I didn't want to make you feel bad, and you should never feel bad when you are happy with a car and happy with a deal. I just intended to do away with any misinformation.
Since my post was over a month ago, the numbers have changed since, but the CURRENT trade-in value is ~$16k-$16500.
My number comes from Galves, which is the book used here in NJ by dealers when evaluating a trade-in, which is where the original poster is from, which is why I replied to him/her. These numbers are only good for the northeast. But those free online services are free for a reason. They are very often wrong.
By the way, if YOURS is AWD like the original poster's, that adds about $2k to the value. But you never mentioned that, so I assumed it was just RWD.

No problem. $24k is actually not bad at all for CPO. That's about $3500-$4k over trade-in value. Does this have the performance pack or sport pack? The 18" wheels are throwin me off a bit. In any case, like I said, even without those, its fair for CPO. If it has either of those, its an even better deal.

Thanks a lot for your pointers. I believe both packages came with it. I think I'll pull the trigger . I must say the CPO does erase a lot of doubts. This board has been been very informative.

$24K is way too much money to pay for that car. An '06 is most probably 5 years old (The E90 330i/xi Sedans came out in May of '05 IIRC). You are talking about a nicely loaded car which probably had a sticker around what, $46K? You should pay maybe $18-$19K for that car. Keep looking. 330Xi BMWs are a dime a dozen here in the northeast.

Aug 18, 2010 (2:35 am)
Trying to make up my mind between an Audi A4 or a BMW 328xi (both phenomenal cars!). Was offered $38180 ($750 above invoice) for a 2011 328xi with Premium, value, metallic color, automatic. 0.9% for 60 mo. Sticker price for the car is $40,600. Here's what I was negotiating:
Base $35,150 $32,340
Prem $2,650 $2,410
Color $550 $500
Delivery $875 $875
auto $1,375 $1,305
Total $40,600 $37,430
What do you guys think?

When I bought my car, I always bargained on the OTD price. I got 2010 328xi for 37,600 otd with premium, logic7 sounds system with black metallic...
Your otd price will come out to (37430 + 2620 (7% tax) + 350$ (registration) ) = 40,400$.
This seems to be a reasonable price to me (2010 had 2000$ rebate on the price. So if you add 37,600 + 2000 + 800 for upgraded sound system which comes to 40,400)..Others can comment about their 2011 buying experience.
These were my 2 cents..Hope it helped.
