I also bought mine in Hemet, Ca (north of SD) - none of the SoCal dealer will match the online price so I bought one from Bernardi....got the contract and cards 2 weeks later...my Dad had to mail me the contract booklet from Wa to my place in SoCal.

It does not matter where you bought the car....

You might want to buy the EW soon....Honda is about to shut down all internet EW sale.

I visited the online dealer's website, the one involved in the lawsuit, and saw it was much cheaper, but I don't know if they offer a full refund if the warranty is unused.

A full refund if unused is not part of the standard Honda Care package. They will give you a prorated refund (whether used or not) depending on time or mileage.

The dealer you're looking at charges you extra up front in order to pay for the option to refund 100%. Read the fine print carefully. To collect, you may have to keep your car for the entire 6 years. In other words, if you sell before then, you get no refund either.

Honda Care pro-rated refund is more flexible. If I sell it, I get some money back. Or the person I'm selling to can pay a small fee and have the balance of the Honda Care put in their name.

Also, the 100% refund discourages you from ever using the warranty. With standard Honda Care, I use it on any covered repair with no hesitation. In your case, you'd probably want a repair to be near $1,185 in value or you'd just pay for the repair in hopes you could get the money back.

CAREGARD Warranty? by brim180

I just bought a 2009 Honda Accord a week ago and I ended up getting the extended warranty (72/100k with a $100 deductible!) from the dealer for about $1469 . After reading this forum and thinking about it a little more, I don't think I made the right decision.

First of all, I thought I was getting a Honda Care extended warranty, but after reading the contract I signed, I noticed that it is called CAREGARD. Has anyone heard of this? On top of that I was "tricked" to also supplement this with the Honda Care Sentinel plan that covers oils changes and tire warranty for 3 years for an additional $495.

I am thinking of cancelling this with the dealer and getting the Honda Care plan through one of the internet dealers mentioned in this forum.

Any suggestions?

Tricked? by sandman46

Didn't you read your paperwork before signing? Trust me, I know it can be very confusing when they throw numbers and papers at ya in the finance room but I doubt they'd say they "tricked" you into anything. If you're unhappy with the policies...go back and cancel them...like NOW! But be honest with yourself and take the responsibility in that YOU just screwed up in not fully understanding what you were signing...they didn't put any gun to your head...it was your choice.

Just hate it when people can't take "personal responsibility" for their actions and automatically blame the dealer for "tricking" or "screwing" them on a personal decision. Not all dealers are bad, most are actually pretty good as my experience of buying two cars within the last five months has shown. I read every paper and understood what I was buying or not buying. And trust me, I'm just an average guy with average intelligence.

Sorry for the rant but dealers aren't always the bad guys folks!!!

I guess I used the wrong word. I take full responsibility of signing those papers and should have read everything word by word. But I just felt overwhelmed in that finance room.

I just wished they were more clear cut with everything. At first they wanted to sell the extended warranty for about $2000. I asked if they could go any lower and said that would go down to $1469 if I also bought the Honda Care Sentinel plan for $495. I was told I would get a full refund if I did not use the extended warranty.

Now I am having second thoughts and am about to cancel to get the warranty cheaper online.

Absolutely cancel both...listen to your gut. Then go online to one of those Massachussetes dealers and buy from them if you must have an extended warranty. A shame you didn't read through this forum before you bought the car, would've saved much aggravation. But it is what it is. Get out of it, buy online & move on and really enjoy your new ride . Shame that this has spoiled the new car experience somewhat .

I read about buying Honda extended warranties online on this board, so when I picked up my new 09 accord this week, I came right home and bought the 72month/120K package with $100 deduct from Sacurri (sp?) that night. I was quoted 1085 at the dealer where I made the car purchase; only 685 online!

Thanks so much for providing this information!

Think about it. At the 4 year point, you have a $ 500 repair. You must pay for it yourself, to preserve the refund. Sounds like a great way for the company to use your money interest free for 6 years, without risk. You decide to file the claim, then the refund is gone. What if the air conditioner then goes bad?

By the way. I've read that most compamies selling these policies 5+ years ago, are no longer in business. Will this company be. Think AIG.

EW worth it if we drive 25k-30k miles/year? by strokeoluck2

We purchased a 2008 Honda Pilot ExL in Feb. of 2008. We put on roughly 27k miles in the first 12 months we owned the Pilot. As I understand it there's a basic 3 year/36k warranty, and a 5 year/60k mile drivetrain warranty. I understand we can purchase an extended warranty for up to 8 years/120k miles.

The question is: if we're going to be at 120k miles in roughly another 3 years, does anyone think it's really worth it to purchase the EW? I don't, but am wondering if I'm missing something. Thanks.
