I think your interpretation is correct. I guess my question should have been, how often had people with pilots needed to use the warranty or are honda pilots usually reliable??
Is it worth almost $1300 to cover the car, bumper to bumper till 95000 miles?

Jet,
You are correct. I had researched this for my sister a few weeks ago who purchased a NEW 09. What I stated is correct for new cars under 6000 miles. For older cars, what you stated is correct. Apparently the contracts are handled differently and priced accordingly.

Coverage for a new auto begins when the vehicle is originally put into service and at zero miles. Coverage for a pre-owned plan(vehicles over 6,000 miles) begins on the service contract purchase date, and at the mileage on the odometer on that date.

This statement seems misleading to me and should be worded differently. Further clarification is needed regarding exactly when the coverage ends. I am sure others have made the same mistake that I made.

I agree. It gets especially confusing because they chose to call it a pre-owned plan, when the car may or may not be pre-owned.

Jet,
It took me a good bit of "googling" before I was willing to admit "defeat." I couldn't find clear answers on any of the big three online sites that are mentioned most often in this forum nor at a few more that popped up on a google search.

Finally I found this at officialhondacare-at-delrayacura.com and was able to see that you were 100% correct:

Do you have a 2006-2007 Honda with less than 6000 miles?

If your Honda was placed in service Jan-2006 & you buy 8Yr/100k mi extended warranty in 2007, your 8/100 warranty would expire in Jan-2014 or at 100k miles ...whichever occurs 1st (even though it's a 2007 warranty purchase) .

. . . O R . . . for ALL other eligible Hondas?

An example: If your Honda has 34000 miles and you buy the 4 yr / 48k miles Plan on a "certain day" 2007. You will be covered until you either reach 82000 miles or until "certain day" 2011. Whichever occurs first, mileage or date

What if my Honda has over 36,000 miles or is over 36 months?

Under either of those 2 conditions, American Honda will only accept Honda Care applications if they are purchased at the time the Honda is purchased. Therefore, unfortunately, our site cannot help you purchase a Honda Care extended warranty.

Any idea when you won't be able to offer the online warranty? I might be buying tonight 1/27.

There has been no formal announcment from Honda. I would assume they would give us a 30 day shutdown notice. I will let you know when I hear something specific. We should still be able to take orders over the phone.

No big deal. I only knew how they worked because I have been posting on this thread for some time now. The examples you found at Delray Acura definitely cleared up the matter. Nice find.

Are you saying that once you are prohibited from doing internet sales you can still sell Honda Care warranties via phone? For example, I intend to purchase another Honda in the next 6 months. Do you think your Honda Care Warranty will still be available by phone? Thanks.

I hate to hear that. I read the full article in Automotive News awhile back and was hoping things would go your way. I am shocked American Honda got away with this. Hopefully Automotive News will do a follow up as I would love to hear the court's reasoning.

I am considering purchasing an Accord or TL this summer, amongst others, but this really ticks me off and makes me lean towards a competing model. I'd love to say it more graphically but I will leave it at "shame on American Honda."

Internet sales was the only thing that I heard that they were trying to ban. Pretty much any dealer will sell you one by phone, so they weren't trying to ban that.

However, without being able to advertise and sell over the internet, its doubtful they would have the quantity of sales that they had previously and they may not be able to offer such low prices.
