Should I buy an ew on a '06 pilot exl (no nav or dvd)? by cheryl26

Hi. I would love to hear people's experiences with whether or not an ew is needed/ or worth the money for an "06 pilot that now has 35,200 miles and is running great. The best prices I have gotten (over the internet, thanks to many other postings) were from myhondawarranty.com at $1345 for 5 years/60,000 miles or bernardiwarranty.com at $1290 for the same coverage. My question is, given Honda's great realiability, and the fact that I don't have a dvd or nav system, (although it is 4WD), should I spend the money and buy the warranty, or is it not worth it?? We plan to keep the car for a long time.
Please give me your thoughts quickly, b/c I only have about another 800 miles to decide. Thanks for all advice.
Cheryl

What does the warranty cover? Is it a powertrain warranty or is it bumper to bumper similar to the 3 yr/36k warranty?

Is the coveraged for an additional 5 year and an additional 60 miles? Or does it cover you to 5 years and up to 60k miles?

Thanks for responding. It would be bumper to bumper and includes "everything mechanical and electirical, but not ordinary wear and tear" (like brakes etc.). It would also be for an additional 5 years or additional 60,000 miles, which would cover me to 95,000 miles.

You better double check this. Usually its 5/60 from the date of purchase of the car. I have never seen a EW work as you stated. When the odometer hits 60,000 miles, coverage stops. Period.

Cut and copied from one of the online companies:

Coverage for a new auto begins when the vehicle is originally put into service and at zero miles. Coverage for a pre-owned plan(vehicles over 6,000 miles) begins on the service contract purchase date, and at the mileage on the odometer on that date.

Otherwise, everyone would wait until 35,999 miles and then buy a 8/120 warranty which would cover the car for a total of 11 years and 156,000 miles. No way.

Honda has gone to court to try to stop online dealers from selling these warranties.

That is certainly inconsistent with giving them a bonus. A better reason the dealer refused the lower price, is that word gets around. Better to pass on a small profit, and keep skimming the cream.

You are completely incorrect about this. What you cut and copied completely contradicts the statement you made.

Coverage for a new auto begins when the vehicle is originally put into service and at zero miles. Coverage for a pre-owned plan(vehicles over 6,000 miles) begins on the service contract purchase date, and at the mileage on the odometer on that date.

As the person's car has more than 6,000 miles the mileage begins at whatever the odometer is on the purchase date. In this case if they have 35,000 miles, they add 60,000 miles to that. Same way with the time.

As for people waiting until 35,999 miles to buy an 8/120 warranty, those aren't offered after 6,000 miles. A 5/60 is probably the best that is offered for a car that old.

Just go to myhondawarranty.com and you can see this for yourself by getting a quote for a 35,000 mile nearly 3 year old vehicle.

A verdict in the Honda Care injunction hearing was reached today. The Federal Court judge has sided with Honda. I will release more details tomorrow as we read through the judgement.

If you plan on purchasing do it ASAP.

I think your interpretation is correct. I guess my question should have been, how often had people with pilots needed to use the warranty or are honda pilots usually reliable??
Is it worth almost $1300 to cover the car, bumper to bumper till 95000 miles?

Jet,
You are correct. I had researched this for my sister a few weeks ago who purchased a NEW 09. What I stated is correct for new cars under 6000 miles. For older cars, what you stated is correct. Apparently the contracts are handled differently and priced accordingly.

Coverage for a new auto begins when the vehicle is originally put into service and at zero miles. Coverage for a pre-owned plan(vehicles over 6,000 miles) begins on the service contract purchase date, and at the mileage on the odometer on that date.

This statement seems misleading to me and should be worded differently. Further clarification is needed regarding exactly when the coverage ends. I am sure others have made the same mistake that I made.
