Thanks for the reply.
Are the aftermarket brake pads/rotors better than the original OEM nissan parts??Do they improve performance or are they just less expensive than the Nissan pads? Did they stop the steering wheel shake?
Is there any specific aftermarket brake pad u suggest?
And regarding the tires-- the Yokohoma Avid Touring TRZ are supposed to be the best for the Quest. It`s been posted a lot in the forums before.
I still have OEM tires on my 04 quest now at 60k.They have decent tread left,,about 10k .So after that it`s Yoko for me.
I just had the auto tranny flush, coolant flush and in cabin filter replacement for the 60k service.I use 5w30 full synthetic oil.
Did u get any other services done- like power steering and brake flushes?
Thanks.

There are other options available in the 225/65 - 16" size now. I put on Michelin Primacy's back in December when Sears was having a special. The price was the same as Yoko Avid TRZ.

My rear brakes are due to have the rotors and pads replaced. They were replaced at 38k miles. Now at 72k. In general, minivans are tough on brakes esp. if you do a lot of city driving (stop and go). In-laws had to replace their Grand Caravan brakes at 15k miles (2 years of driving). Not sure if aftermarket brakes are better than OEM. I would go with the brand your mechanic feels comfortable with.

I saw the OEM brake pads with my own eyes. The rear pads are tiny! And they are pure metallic which is one grade below semi-metallic. Pepboys uses the Prostop brand. Interestingly they couldn't find semi-metallic pads for the front so I had ceramic pads put on. For the rear I had the options of either metallic or semi-metallic and I went with the semi-metallic. I feel the Prostop pads are probably better than the OEM because the rear ones are semi-metallic and if I remember correctly bigger too than the OEMs. At Pepboys the whole job cost me HALF what it would've at my local dealer who only had the OEM inferior metallic pads.

Other than changing the oil with Mobile 1 5W30 (myself), we haven't done any other service.

Are you happy with the Michelin Primacy tires? These are the same tires I'm thinking. Can anyone comment on the difference with the Yokohoma?

You mean the diff between Primacy and Avid TRZ or diff between OEM and TRZ?

The TRZ's are far superior to the OEM's...everything, feel-comfort-noise-wet traction. If I would have known the TRZ's were so much better I would have scrapped the OEM's years earlier...OEM's really started to show age after a year or so. Plus they were dangerous in the rain.

1.From all the posts before in this thread,,the Yokohoma Avid Touring TRZ`s are the best tires for the Quest. The OEM tires are absolutely the worst.Very few feedback on Michelins.Even CR gives a good rating for Yokos. And they are not costly--100 per tire at tirerack +shipping.
But the Yokos had gotten a lot om support.
2.Regarding the brake pads-- are even the Front OEM pads metallic or just the rear ones? And are the rear pepboys pads working out much better? There is no pepboys in my area,,so I have to use some other aftermarket pad.Do u have any suggestion?Or do I stick to OEM pads?

I just spoke to the Nissan dealer about the OEM pads--I was surprised to hear that both the front and rear OEM brake pads on the Quest are semi-metallic!!
I thought for such a big van - the fronts would be ceramic.I dont think semimetallic is enough for a huge van.So do u suggest ceramics for the fronts?Do u have any recommendation?
There was a lot of discussion previously about the Hawk brake pads and Frozen rotors. Are they better?

Thanks guys for your replies. Sorry I meant differnce between the Michelin and the Yokohama. I'd think the Michelins are at least as good as the Yokos, no?

Hmm, the service guy at my dealer told me both the front and rear pads are just metallic and not even semimetallic. But I got a feeling he wasn't very sure. Maybe your dealer is correct on this one. Based on what they charge for their pads, you'd think they're ceramic!

The ceramic pads on my front tires cost ~$30-40 more than the semimetallic, not a huge jump in price. If you're that concerned with braking, you might want to install ceramic pads all around. I'm not sure about their stopping power, but they ARE silent. I'm not an expert on the various brands of brake pads. Someone else can chime in on that one.

Yup,,for the price they were charging,,I too thought that they were ceramic pads!
Regarding brake pads--I am not too worried about stopping distance--as all are pretty OK and I drive cautiously --It`s whether they reduce the steering wheel shake/shimmy?
Did ceramics on your Quest reduce the shake?
Also do frozen rotors help with the shake?
Thanks
