Ordered 2008 honda exl 4wd res last week from dealer(30,550) - without tags, title, dest Total came out to 32,867.00 . Had to order from another dealer because we wanted white with the tan interior. The honda dealer did not charge me extra for the retrieval of the car. When car came in - did not have the res system . They put in custom dvd system and deducted 400.00 from cost of car. Total cost now is 32,467.00 .. Got extras from www.accessories-honda.com - lowest cost. Got extended warranty from www.jayhondacare.com - 6 year warranty.

My point is that the actual cost of the product you purchased may be $500 and you are paying them $1,000+ for installation. Crutchfield has 9.2" DVD overhead units for $499. While they may have convinced you it's the same result for you, and it may be, they are probably making way, way more putting in a 3rd party unit vs. having to just work the spread between invoice and dealer price on the factory installed unit. It was the same deal w/ my Pilot...they offered a backup camera for $1,895.00 on the particular car I was looking at, but not the factory one. I looked on line and the screen and camera were under $200. And, although the funcitons appeared similar, they did not have the same level of integration. So, where they would make a couple hundred bucks on the factory option, they were making $1,000+ on the 3rd party option (although they did have to spend an hour installing it). Just make sure you got all of the functions and integration that come w/ the factory unit, like 2 sets of wirelesss headphones, easily accessible inputs, etc. Also, you have to consider resale value. You don't have an EX-L RES right now, you have an EX-L w/ aftermarket accessories. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, b/c it's just as likely that this unit is better than the Honda one as it is that it is worse. But, the dealer definitely knew what they were doing and they did find a way to make a lot more on this deal than if they had delivered what they promised. I wouldnt' really stand for it unless the DVD unit was far superior to what comes w/ the Honda.
