Honda Pilot EX-L 2wd, $28,400 by chuck100

Green with leather - nothing special installed since we couldn't get the ipod link installed on the XM-radio. $28,400 included $550 destination charge (5% tax and title separate + $185 document fee). Gulfport, MS dealer. Not nearly as good as the $26-27K prices people are quoting here but it beat the (internet) prices from 4 dealers in the area (all were over $29K and no one came down much when we emailed back and forth. Went and haggled the old fashioned way.

I would've gone carsdirect but bay area dealers beat them by hundreds,a "whole lot" to be descriptive.

If the 2wd ex fabric isnt the model you're asking quotes for then that might be the reason. the leathers are in demand, or the dealeship hasn't met their quotas to avail of the $1000dealer incentive, or could be lots of reasons. my situation is: located in bay area, 2wd ex fabric in either silver, sagebrush, or desert rock, no add ons desired.
But here's what I did if you're still not getting the $25K flat for the 2wd ex fabric.
I went to honda website and did the "Locate a dealer" on the tabs on the far right near the bottom. Put in my zipcode. And honda website gave me the list of dealers w/in 50 miles of me even though i was willing to go out as far as 75mi for a good deal.
Then here's the hard part. On each of the dealers located near you there is a "Request a Quote" symbol you click to request a quote for that dealership. Choose the Pilot 2wd ex and choose the color. Then put in all your contact info, and additional info.and submit.
Well by doing this,i spent my whole friday morning, using cut copy paste to put in all my contact info and my somewhat short "requests" in the additional info box. I did the "Request a Quote" on all 30+ dealerships around me. And they all rang my answering machine even when i had requested on the additional info box to not call me.Of course half didnt give me quotes but rather invited me to the dealership or call them w/c i did not. And to add,i didnt dupe the best offering by having another dealer beat the price. In fact Stockton Honda Internet manager offered 24995 a little to late, Dublin Honda had replied promptly and precisely as i had asked with an offer i couldnt pass up so i called them up made an appointment. No dealer bidding wars on price for me, the best price or in my case, what i expected to be best offer, thats who i contacted. No haggling on my part, anyways it'll be bad karma for you get the best quote from far away and ask local dealer to match or beat it, just for your convenience. DO THIS AND IT'LL CATCH UP TO YOU. But anyways, stockton emailed their offer after i had already made an appt with Dublin Honda. Sure it was less by 5 bucks and the distance was lesser as compared to Dublin but Dublin gave me a good offer, exactly contacted me as i had requested with no annoying calls or empty quotes with invites, so i stuck with the appt with them the following morning.

Here's my letter that i put in the "additional info box" if you want to reword it, I thought it was clear not to call and specifics of what i wanted so they could give the exact quote(but still u have some dealerships tryin to reel you in to have you call them or go to dealership so that they'll just waste your time with outrageous prices or bait-switch units you never intended on considering):

"Purchase within 5 days, tomorrow if preferred color and price offered today is right. I am only interested in 2006 2WD EX Fabric in silver exterior but will consider 2 other colors, desert rock and sage brush. Will not be able to answer phone calls so please use email preferably with contact info, including your offer, the exterior color of vehicle being offered and an OTD price for vehicle without additional options. Emails without price quotes will be disregarded. Thank you for your time and any assistance you may provide."

My location for tax rate purposes and dmv fees was put in the other boxes so nobody say i gave incomplete info.Any other info dealerships needed, they'll get after giving me a quote that I'll use for purchase with them. the additional request i made was specific as to what i wanted. I was specific as to what to include and how i should be contacted. But there were still many annoying calls and emails. I know when the emails are auto-generated and when someone writes them up, there were still alot of manually made emails...i hated these.

Honorable mentions for quotes on 2wd ex fabric: Stockton honda internet sales manager 24995, Lodi honda internet sales manager 25300, San leandro honda intermanager 25335 , Avery Greene Motors internet manager(Honda in vallejo) 25535, winter honda internet sales manager(pittsburg was closest to me 5 miles but i didnt cheat dublin for the quote they gave me by having winter beat or match it)25700something.

And of course the offer i took up because they were so quick to respond Dublin Honda internet sales manager 25000. No haggling,no fuss guys. Will buy from them again when i need a honda, as long as they still give a competitive quote like the one for our pilot.

Go thru honda website so that the internet managers give you their quotes and when you take up their offer they usually state in the emailed quotes you bring to them, that you go to internet sales office or specifically to them and bypass the many haggling sales people elsewhere.

Incentives thru may 1 for my location bay area are: manufacturer to dealer $1000 if the dealership meets the criteria(i thinks its the # of units they have to sell in the month of april, like what they had for march incentive) and then there's the American Honda Financial Corp financing promo of 3.9% for 3yrs,5.9% for 5-6yrs and whatever for the 4yr and whatelse that i forgot. The 2 cant be used together here in the bayarea but what happened to me was my quote surely did reflect of the $1000 incentive and then AHFC(honda financial) beat my eloan by willing to give me 6.5%.
also, the financing promo only applies to those who qualify(credit score, employment, residence history and whatever else they use to see if you qualify) I asked this specifically, because with good credit scores in the 3 major bureaus, eloan only gave us a rate just a tad higher than AHFC with a decent maximum loan amount while honda financial offered better rate and willing to loan much higher amount.

Sori for long post guys.
Good luck bennfine.

2006 Honda Pilot 2WD EX-L with RES (DVD) - Bought in Tampa by erical77

Sales price was ~$29,900 (including destination) which included side steps installed, additional tinting on front windows, cargo mat, mud guards and wheel locks. Out the door price included a $399 dealer fee (couldn't get it down), plus TTL (7% sales tax) for a total OTD price of $32,484.

I was told by the salesman (and read online) that the $1,000 dealer incentive could not be used in conjuction with the Honda Finance special offer. We did do the Honda Finance offer of 4.9% for 48 months.

Overall I think we got a good deal - especially if they don't get the $1,000 dealer incentive.

Trying to decide between 2WD and 4WD. by charles20

Hi, I am trying to decide between a 2WD EX-L and 4wd EX-L. The difference in price is only about $1000 and the difference in gas mileage is 17/22 compared to 18/24.
I live in Virginia, where it doesn't snow much, so can't really convince myself to go for 4WD. My only concern is that 4-5 years down the road, would 2WD have the same resale value as 4WD?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I got a quote for 06 2WD EX for $22,699 + $550 dest. charge + $399 doc. fees + TTL and was wondering if this is a good price.

I'm hearing from current owners that the leather in Pilots is not good quality and wrinkles show up within months and ages very fast. But unfortunately you need to get leather to get the sunroof. I'm unable to decide.

Dealer Fairness Question by rockfan

I bought a 2WD-LX about 10 days ago and got a pretty good pricing deal which I have already posted on the forum. The original test drive went great but I only tested the car on the local highway and feeder road near the Russell & Smith dealership. The night that I took the car home, I started hearing a low bass noise every few seconds whenever the VCM system tried to enage and disengage. The noise was clear and noticeable. I called my salesperson that night and said there was something wrong with the car and he told me to bring it in. Since I bought the car on a Sat, I took it in on the second business day (Tues). The salesperson promised to have the service area look at the car and fix the problem. I told the salesperson that I am not comfortable with an repairs being needed on a brand new car with only 64 miles on. He assured me that this is a minor problem and can be fixed.

The dealer now has had the car for about 7 days now with no idea of what is causing the noise. They thought they fixed it once after calling Honda but no luck. When I asked about giving this car back and getting another Pilot which is not making the noise, they told me that according to Texas law, once a car is sold and driven off the lot it is considered as a used car. A title will be used and after that, the only way that a dealer can take the car back is through trade-in. When I told the sales manager that there are other dealerships that allow 7 days ownership guarantees and will accept the car back, he said he doesn't know how that is legally possible.

My question to the forum is how do things really work. Is the dealer being honest with me regarding the no compromise about getting another identical pilot? What about the used car status once a car is driven off the lot? If so, how are other dealerships taking these cars back. Please help as this has been a very disappointing purchase so far and I was really excited about getting a pilot for my family. Thanks.

Pilot EX-L w/ RES - Dealership matters? by mgsfba

I plan to buy 2006 Pilot EX-L w/ RES in next 2-3 days. I got quotes via internet from a few dealerships. I figure the cost to dealership as follows:

Invoice + Dest Charges - Incentives - holdback (3%of MSRP)
30,090 + 550 - 1000 - 1000 = 28640

I plan to get quotes through internet from local dealers and buy the lowest quote. I wonder if some dealers engage in unscrupulous behaviour - selling new cars that are slightly damaged during transportation, or some other known problems (??). Wouldn't this be illegal? Maybe I'm worrying too much! Just curious if I just go buy from the dealer who quoted the lowest or stick only to large (volume) dealers. Has anyone had any bad experience buying through internet/fleet managers at the following dealerships in the SF bay area?

- Dublin Honda
- San Leandro Honda
- Anderson Honda

thanks in advance.

I know about the holdback but what about the incentive you mentioned?
