The MDX rocks. I don't know about the Pilot, but I have no regrets with my MDX purchase. It is tested, first year bugs have been resolved, handles better than mid-line sedans. Just love it. Only 1000 miles so far, but all good.

Here's our deal... by hlz

Our black ex-navi came in today! Haven't seen it or driven it yet -probably tonight. Now the sticker shock... The price is $34,975 (plus tax & tags). Dealer says they've chosen not to markup, but instead to add an accessory pkg. & our salesman is making it sound mandatory (but I got the impression if we yell about it we may be able to get it w/o). The pkg includes side rails for the roof rack, cargo trays & cargo cover, side steps, splash guards & wheel locks which they say they're adding to all alloy wheels anyway. What would you do? Is this stuff worth $1900? Is this loaded Pilot still less expensive than a base MDX?

Honda Dealer Renegging on quoted Pilot Price by lizbick

I've been looking at the Pilot online since April. I requested pricing on an EX with leather in April and stated that if the price was right I would put give a deposit in June for July or August delivery.

I finally received pricing from an "internet" manager at the local honda dealership(in writing) on May 18th. The quote was for $400 over MSRP. I explained that I wanted to test drive as soon as one arrives and would then provide a deposit at the quoted price if I liked it. The Pilots arrived on the lot on Friday 5/30 and I test drove on the same day. We liked the car and pursued the deposit at the quoted price.

Now the dealership is telling me that their manager is insisting on $2,000 in dealer add-ons (echo, running boards, etc). Can they do this when they've already provided a quote in writing? I've been talking to my rep weekly for several weeks and now they try to pull this? Isn't this otherwise known as "bait and switch"?

Now my rep is claiming she'll talk to her manager tomorrow and let me know.

Maybe you should casually mention that the consumer protection section of the state attorney general's office might be interested in how they are doing business. Just about every state has one, and they often have an auto "specialist" in house. Good luck!

Here are the list prices for those accessories. Please note that these prices do not include installation (though some are a no-brainer to "install," e.g. the cargo cover). Also, there are plenty of mail-order or Internet discounters who will sell these at a substantial discount (some even include shipping). Though if it doesn't come with the vehicle it just has a standard accessory warranty (dealer-installed accessories are warranteed with the vehicle).

side rails for the roof rack: $170
cargo tray: $89
cargo cover: $139
side steps: $499
splash guards: $42
wheel locks: $49

When you said "cargo trays" I don't know if you mean just the cargo tray, or do you mean other items, like:

Cargo liner: $205
Cargo organizer: $59
Cargo net: $39

"Is this loaded Pilot still less expensive than a base MDX?"

Yes, but not by as much. Though that depends if you can buy a base MDX in your area for MSRP or not (takes some looking around and depends on where you are). The Pilot EX-L lists for $4,220 less than a base MDX.

In our area, MDX is at sticker and Pilot is at about $55 over MSRP. If you can live the stigma, 1 dealer near me has 7 Odysseys in stock and every other dealer has 5 or 6 Odysseys in stock. All of our dealers are willing to bargain on Odysseys or CR-Vs. If you don't need a 8 passenger SUV, try CR-V. All of the dealers in my area have about 15-30 CR-Vs in stock. One dealer was running a sale a few days ago that put Odysseys at $25,000 for EX and $22,000 for LX.
EX with leather is running sticker. CR-Vs are running at about $900 under sticker.

Jim-
Thanks for the lead. I contacted Wesloh Honda and got on their list. Also gave them 500 deposit for a sagebrush EX later delivery.
Nora says any additional accessories/options can be added when it arrives.
Hope everything stays this easy when the vehicle arrives and they don't try and force the options.

Ed Martin Indianapolis, at MSRP $32,480. No add ons, although after I made the deal I upped the warranty to 5/60 for $995. It wasn't forced on me. And I talked them up $500 on my trade.
