Mike Pruitt Honda by mugsy

Most everybody has such great things to say about Mike Pruitt Honda in OH and all my local dealers are qouting MSR or above for the Pilot. I'm a first time shopper for a car (live in New York) and complete novice at this. Can any fellow new yorker or anyone else tell me how this works since Ohio can't collect NYS and NYC tax. I assume I'm still obligated to pay the very hefty state and city taxes (directly) but have no idea how to do this.

Also, how does it work if there is a problem with the car after devilery. Will any New York Honda service department handle issues that come up with an Ohio purchased car. Sorry if these questions seem so basic but I really have no clue. Thanks for any help!

Tax works like this.. You won't pay any Ohio state tax..You will get a 30 day "tag" for driving but you will need to register the car in NY of course to get your plates. At that time you will pay the NY state tax. Mike Pruitt will walk you through that process.

As far as service issues... if it is a warranty issue any Honda dealer will service the car.
I saved $1400 and think it was well worth the litte extra effort I put in... e.g. the 7 hour drive from Ohio to NJ

Does anyone have any recent experiences to share on purchasing a Pilot EX-L or EX-L with NAV in either Washinton or Northern Oregon? I am seeing a lot of the Seattle area dealers posting prices at $3500-$4500 above MSRP which just seems crazy considering what I am seeing other people pay on this discussion group...

Twins7...I am getting ready to enter the fray in the next few months of purchasing a 05 Pilot in the Twin Cities area. Your post confirms my fears of having to pay MSRP or higher. I live in the vicinity of BVL Honda, but have had bad service from them in the past. Willing to travel to DLH, RST, FSD, MSN and possibly MKE for purchase. Any luck on your end so far?

After looking into the pricing at Sam's Club, Costco, AAA and several local dealers, I learned about Mike Pruitt Honda from this message board. Since my last experience with a Virginia Honda dealer was like a bad dream, I was a little hesitant to purchase another Honda. However, the Internet lady that helped me was very professional and courteous. I placed an order a few weeks ago and flew up to Akron from Greensboro on Saturday 5/1 to pick up my Sagebrush EX. While the drive back was a little long, it no problem and I wouldn't hesitate to buy there again. My experience and pricing was just as described by many others on this board. Thanks Edmunds and MPH.

I have not been able to post my new car experience sooner since I've been occupied with my new ride. I picked up my Sandstone Metallic Pilot EX-L with Navigation on Friday. My brother in-law and I flew from NYC's Laguardia to Ohio and was picked up at the airport by the salesman that I've been dealing with. We were out of the dealership within an hour. The salesman was great. He went over all of the features and even helped me program the navigation system for the long drive back to NJ. Worked like a charm. He is the man! I can't say enough about Mike Pruitt Honda. They were professional and very easy to deal with.

Hi there,

I purchased a Honda Odyssey EX-L on April 28 with Burnsville Honda in Burnsville, MN. I paid invoice - $500 (Honda mkting support incentive?) for the van. I could not get a Pilot for less than MSRP - $500. We love the van and we could not justify the price difference between Pilot and Odyssey at this time. We liked Toyota Highlander but it is a bit too small and it was hard to get kids in and out of the 3rd row. Liked Sienna but again, hard to justify the price difference. Good luck with your search/purchase!

It all started with a fuse...

Early Wed. a.m. on my way to a business meeting I stopped (for the first time)at Peter's Honda in Nashua, NH to pick up a fuse for my '96 Accord radio/power jack (1st thing that broke in 8 years). Parts guy tossed me a few 15 amp fuses for free. This put me in a good mood and I decided to yet again torture myself trying to get a deal on my wife's dream car, the Pilot. Surprise!!! 15 mins. later I had a Black 04
EX-L (in stock...they said this never happens and after reviewing this board for a while I agree) for $29,970 bottom line including dest. charges etc.

Picked it up Friday night...no hassles...the way car buying should be. Now I'm hoping it will be 2012 before anything breaks in this car.

Thanks for the postings. They've been most helpful.

Twins7...thanks for the reply. Been a minivan family for the past 10 years ('94 Nissan Quest), and looking forward to upgrading to car based SUV. However, still expect to tote the friends of our kids, so thinking the third row seating would be nice. Hard to fathom paying MSRP for vehicle, and if area dealerships standing firm, will likely focus on new Pathfinder. Typically Nissan has no problem building inventory.
