Just got a 2004 EX-L with 7 miles on it with no accessories for $29,800 (which includes mandatory $460 destination) at Honda of Frankfort, Frankfort, KY on Sept 20 2003. There was an additional $239 for title/docs/etc. Some other $150 BS charge was waived. Tax was $1600 or so (KY is about 6%, no cap!). Grand Total was about $31,730. Came with full tank of gas (19 gal.!) FYI, For EX-L, MSRP (sticker) is $31,330 and Invoice is $28,230 (both include the $460 destination charge). Started out by searching via Sam's Club site, and after putting in zip codes for all surrounding larger cities I got two hits. One in Parkersburg WV about 6 hours away provided a list that showed 2003s only and the Pilot was $1500 over invoice. I tried to call, but no callback. The other place was Laurenceville? (south of Columbus) OH, about 3 hours away. They didn't have a listing of prices, but over the phone I got 800 under MSRP. I had been working with the local Lexington KY dealer (Don Jacobs), but they wouldn't give me a price and wanted me to start the bidding... There must be about 5 dealers within a 100 mile radius, so I started with Honda of Frankfort since they were only about 20mi away. Earlier in the week they responded with an email that they had no pilots in stock. Anyway, in looking at this forum and some other info I figured for my area that 1500 was a good target price. They actually had 3 on the lot that came in on 19th, and I said I wanted 1500 under MSRP. They came back with 29,800 (1530 under MSRP) when they found I would buy that day. I used the "check with my wife and call you back" ruse to give the local dealer (Don Jacobs in lexington) a call, but the best they would do was 700 under MSRP. So after clarifying with Honda of Frankfort that I could choose between the Sandstone and the Silver (the other one was a Sage with DVD), I took the Silver and they had the paperwork ready when I got there at closing time 30 min. later. We paid cash so the process was extremely quick. I couldn't tell if I was getting a psych job or not, but the desk manager who gave me the price was smiling kind of funny and said that HIS boss said "you did WHAT?!" when told what I was offered. Probably to make me feel good. I probably could have called around more to get a better price, etc. but with the way these things move off the lot there is not a lot of opportunity for haggling, and I didn't want to take the chance of it taking another month to get a basic EX-L in a color I liked. Plus I can imagine having to drive some distance and chew up a whole day, etc. vs. the couple hours on Sat. that I spend (plus of course the hours over picking between Highlander, Passat wagon, Subaru stuff, and Pilot, and then the discussing whether the DVD was a good idea, etc.) Maybe it's just rationalization, but it feels good to have it over with and feel I got a decent if not great price. (we have a wedding in the family coming up soon and wanted to get this out of the way before then - plus we can haul more people around now too) Additional info: We considered the Sandstone (in fact we initially thought that was the one that we were being offered and were going to take it), but the Silver has the darker interior, which we wanted to camo kid dirt. Also, regarding roominess - I have two carseats in the 2nd row and I can comfortably fit between them in the middle seat, but I'm 5'11" and 160lbs - still, Pilots are wide! I know this is a long post, but more info is better! |

A friend is having buyer's remorse about leasing a 2004 Pilot. Since I don't know a lot about costs for leasing...here's what she got. 2004 Honda Pilot, AWD 4dr SUV w/Leather and Navigation System She is paying $550/month for four years. She had another lease car she was turning in early and owed $1700. They "said" they would take care of it but I think they rolled that amount into her new lease. Did she pay too much? |

I'll leave the math up to someone a bit more competent with lease numbers, but it sounds a bit stiff to me. I assume she put nothing down, right? I would bet that, yes, the $1700 is rolled in. Happens all the time. Its pretty much standard procedure. She should have checked the numbers on the paperwork closer. But nothing that can be done now. Tell her to just drive and and enjoy it and suffer with the payments because there is not a damned thing that can be done about it now. Its tough for anyone to tell you precisely without knowing all the numbers on the contract. Need to know purchase price, any and all fees, buyout price at the end of the lease, miles allowed per year, etc. |

$550 is high. I ordered a 2004 EXL RES through a Costco dealership the price is $434.01 without accessories. Notes: (i) I am purchasing $740.00 in accessories (Fog Lights Cross Bar & Cargo Cover) so my monthly payment is $452.51; (ii) the Costco discount I received is $1,000 under MSRP; and (iii) Each of the following leases below assume: Res % 56% Months 48 Money Factor 0.00210000 Sales Tax Rate 9% The details of my lease (without $740 in accessories) are as follows: MSRP $32,830.00 Lease Bank Fee $550.00 Discount $(1,000.00) Effective Cost $32,380.00 Payment $434.01 The EXL-Navi at MSRP would be: MSRP $33,330.00 Lease Bank Fees $550.00 Effective Cost $33,830.00 Payment $465.79 The EXL-Navi at MSRP (with the $1,700)would be: MSRP $33,330.00 Lease Bank Fees $550.00 Roll-In $1,700.00 Effective Cost $35,580.00 Payment $508.28 In order to get to $550 a month, you would need to include the $1,700 roll-in as well as an additional $1,669 (Accessories?). In that case, the numbers would be: MSRP $33,330.00 Fees $550.00 Roll-In $1,700.00 Additional costs $1,669.00 Effective Cost $37,249.00 Payment $550.00 Andy |

Good point qbrozen. The Lease info I provided is for 12,000 miles per year so maybe she has 15,000 per year. Andy |

| I need this for my wife because my subie's lease is expiring. I checked in with Pruitt today. They said 29,700 for an EX/L. Either I go and get it (airfare and drive time) or they ship it for $895. A local dealer in CT offered me the same for 31,130 but extended the warranty to 48 months and lifetime free oil service. So lets give the CT dealer $500 for their warranty and oil (I plan to hold on to this forever). Take 500 from the 31,130 for 30,600. Add 895 to 29700 to get 30,595. Its a wash. Ok there's still that $895 if I fly and get it but the flight out of LGA at about $200 leaves $700. My friend drives me to LGA at 4am (sucks)I drive 8 hours back (sucks more). I still have to go to DMV to do the title stuff (sucks the most). After all that the dealer I bought from is now 8 hours away. Is that worth $700? BTW I had a commitment from another CT dealer who was $1000 under MSRP but they couldn't produce when I went for the deal. I drove this car and quite frankly its not all that hot. It just has the magic combination of 7/8 passenger, AWD and not a minivan. I would look at other US SUVs but I had the unfortunate experience of buying a ford exploder in the mid nineties. I can't afford to do that again. A volvo XC? Read their posts. There has to be a better answer to this. | |
