You know SUV sales are really hurting when Honda is advertising the AMAZING 23MPG of the Pilot. (That's one less MPG's than alot of the Fords/Chevys/GMC's/Dodges). It's bad when Honda has to pull out the "yeah we know it's only slightly worse than the American SUV's on fuel economy" advertising strategy. I agree...wait it out, someone has to start panicking soon. Honda sales were down 24% in September and if their marketing strategy is any indication of the future, October may not be looking any better.

Re-emerging Incentives by poodog13

I couldn't disagree more with the rationales listed for the liklihood of increasing / re-emerging incentives.

SUV sales are down. So is SUV production. The purpose of incentives is to move excess inventory or to maintain minimum production levels. I haven't been able to find anything on Pilot inventories, but before you ASSUME that incentives will come back, you had better have some idea of inventory trends. Otherwise, all you are doing is waiting for the sake of waiting.

Also, the effect of credit-tightening on incentives is unknown. On one hand, it makes AHFC's cost of credit higher, meaning that it is harder for them to offer special finance rates. On the other hand, it reduces sales because people can't get bank loans, increasing inventory. The big winner might be the cash buyer, or at least those with a large downpayment who can then easily qualify for a smaller loan and get a great deal in the process.

NEW 2005 Pilot EX-L w/Nav What should I offer? by mitch65

My local Honda dealer in Queens NY has a New 2005 Pilot EX-L w/Nav. Considering it's year and that it's new, what should I offer them for it? I think it's list is just over $34k
Thanks.

I think your dealer is trying to scare you into purchasing a vehicle NOW.

No dealer knows for certain what incentives will be available. If you really do not need a vehicle at this time I suggest you WAIT. These next few months are the most difficult time for the auto market. With many people concentrating on the Holiday season, sales are down. If the dismal September sales are any indication of the downward trend,October, and November should follow the same pattern.

I would be very suspicious of this vehicle? Why do they Still have a New 2005 EX-L
available? Did you personally see the car and do they have it on their premises?

How long ago did you inquire and is the vehicle is still available?

I also live in NY and I know all the dealers. This may be a bait and switch tactic to get you into the showroom.

What DON'T they do to get you into the showroom?
I first saw this on eBay Motors. I emailed them about it and they email me back the standard sales pitch ignoring my original question. They finally told me they do have it. It is also on their website inventory. Haven't actually seen it yet though. Any idea what I should offer?

Don't you feel suspicious of there's a brand new 2005 Pilot still around?
Why can't they sell this car for the past 3 years?
There will be a lot of questions to ask and check anything wrong with this car.
Of course a test drive is needed before any offer is offered.

In EBay Motor I found a 2005 Pilot in "New" section which is in NY. However this car has lots of mileage. It should be a mistake.

I actually just purchased a 05 Acura MDX w/navi, 60,000 miles for $19k, including the wraparound 100k/7yr warranty.

I guess they scared me into it! I couldn't pass up the deal on the MDX, and couldn't find a Pilot low enough to outbid that deal!

Mitch65:

It is really difficult to make an offer on a vehicle that you have not seen or test driven.

My First reaction would be why are they not answering YOUR questions - I would really push hard to have MY questions answered first.

In addition I would ask them outright what they want for this vehicle - let them make the first offer not YOU. Plus ask them for the VIN number so that you can check it.

Then make an appointment to inspect( make sure the VIN number they gave you matches the one on the vehicle) and test drive the vehicle -

Of course, I'm a little suspicious, but if it's new, what could be wrong with it? Unless it has like a hundred miles on it.
I think that was the one I saw too on eBay. But as I said, they did say they have a new one in stock, and it's on their inventory on their website.
